Bill's Story

Life After graduating from Monroe in '72, I went to a broadcasting school in Hollywood for three years. Getting a first time gig in LA was out of the question then, so off I went into the world. My first job in the wonderful world of radio and TV was in Wayne, Nebraska at radio station KTCH as a DJ. I knew from school that I'd have a longer career behind the scenes rather in front of the mike, so I only spent the summer of '75 there, opting to go to a TV station in Boise, Idaho that fall. I stayed in Boise for five years, starting as as studio cameraman. (Camera "person" as they want to say today.) when I left I was still at the same place but now as the Daytime Production Manager. In between I had a blast, learning how to ski there and making some lifelong friends. Many co-workers that used to work for me at that TV station are still working there. It's interesting to look down the road not taken...or in my case...taken away, since I got canned! (Long story best left for a long e-mail or a phone call). I wound up back in LA, and thought I would only be there a couple of years to build up the resume. I ended up spending the next 14 years there, as well as getting married in 1987 and having two ...Expand for more
incredible children; Alexa (16) and Ryan (15). As with many of you out there, while a marriage may be a mistake, as was mine, you always know you did something right when you had your children. We moved to Minnesota in 1994 to get out of LA, which was no longer the city I grew up in. It was our chance at a more family friendly lifestyle. I was still in the TV business doing broadcast and post production stuff, but I began moving into a sales and marketing role with my first employer there. This turned into a sales position with a national TV equipment manufacturer, and today I am the Vice President of North American Sales for an international TV equipment manufacturer. If you had told me 33 years ago at our graduation ceremony on the Monroe football field that I would now be living in a small Minnesota town, that I would be the father of two wonderful kids, or that I would have the best job of my career...in sales no less...I would have said you were smoking whatever it was we were smoking then. All in all, while not everyday has been sweetness and light, I still feel truly blessed at how things have gone so far. I look forward to hearing from you to see where life's path had led you.
