Bill's Story
1/21/15 Bill said:
I married a wonderful girl in July 1961, we have been together for over 53 good years. We had two children, a boy and a girl and two grandsons. Nancy my wife and I both retired from L.A. County Dept. of Public Works (Flood Control District). I retired in 1989 at the age of 49 and spent my time sailing my boat, scuba diving, snow skiing and playing golf. I love the off shore islands. Through the years I have had six different boats. Several trips for water skiing at the ocean, different lakes and rivers and a lot of diving and fishing trips to the islands. A lot of good memories.
In 1980 I became a reserve deputy sheriff at Industry Station for 14 years and retired a Sergeant in 1994. From 2003 into 2011 I was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 2-5 out of Balboa Island. My boat Alpha 211225 was an operational facility and ran patrols for the US Coast Guard.
My wife and I like to travel and have enjoyed quite a bit of traveling around the world and still plan to do more. We do a lot of vacations with our daughter and her family. Nancy likes her hobbies, being with friends, grandsons and family.
Last month, December 12, 2014 I turned 75 and when I think that someday I will not be able to do the things that I like and a lot of them are here now, it scares me a little. So far in my life I believe that you use it or lose it. I now belong to two different prospecting clubs and enjoy camping out.
In 1986 we lost our son Craig in a motorcycle accident three weeks before he turned twenty three. After high school and a trip to Hawaii with family, he joined the Marine Corps for four years. He worked the White House and other det...Expand for more
ails in Washington D.C. and had deployments in several countries over seas. He was discharged as a Corporal and hired by the Los Angeles County Road Dept. He took the test for LASD and was on the list for LAPD. He wanted to go into law enforcement. After nine months away from the Marines he said to me one night that he missed them, and joined the Marine Corps Reserve at 29 Palms CA. and was to be promoted to Sergeant.
In High School he was All Serra League in varsity football, he was twice the ball player that I ever was. He was a great son and we were always proud of him.
Our daughter Jacqueline was a good student in high school and was into horses, swimming and friends. After she graduated from high school, while going to college she worked for the LASD as desk operations person. At 19 she took the test to become a Sheriff and passed. She graduated and became a Deputy Sheriff at East LA Station. She married another Sheriff and together they have two fine sons. Nicholas who is 13 and Brandon is turning 11. She and her husband Juan both retired from the LASD as Lieutenants. Jackie had to retire early because of an injury. She is 42 and she loves the time she and Juan can spend with their boys.
Our two grandsons are both honor students and Black Belts in Taekwondo, and love playing water polo. They both are in the Navy Sea Cadets program and have twice went to Camp Pendleton for a week of training. They also play the piano, sax and trumpet. (The family is in Face Book.)
Nancy and I live at Snow Creek Estates, Walnut, California.
I would enjoy hearing from friends.
Hope this finds you happy and healthy :-) .......... Bill Billingsley
