Bill's Story

Bill is from Thibodaux, Louisiana. He is married with Karen Knoerr Wray. His schools include Thomas Jefferson High School. He works(ed) at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Systems, Science and Software, Air Force Weapons Laboratory. TV shows Bill likes include The Rachel Maddow Show. One of Bill's favorite quotes is:""A brave heart is a powerful weapon." (Rudy Garcia: Double at-the-knee amputee who set a new world record in 200m Individual Medley swim at 2004 Paralympics.) "Free your mind and your ass will follow." (Funkadelic & Junior from "Platoon") “He who has so little knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but his own disposition will waste his life in fruitless efforts. (Samuel Johnson) “A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” (Albert Einstein) The wind will not stop. Gusts of wind swirl before me, stinging my face. But there is still too much to see and marvel at, the world very much alive in the bright light and wind, exultant with the fever of spring, the delight of morning. Strolling on it seems to me that the strangeness and wonder of existence are emphasized here, in the desert, by the comparative sparsity of the flora and fauna: life not crowded upon life as in other places but scattered abroad in spareness and simplicity, with a generous gift of space for each herb and bush and tree, each stem of gras...Expand for more
s, so that the living organism stands out bold and brave and vivid against the lifeless sand and barren rock. The extreme clarity of the desert light is equalled by the extreme individuation of desert life forms. Love flowers best in openness and freedom. (Edward Abbey, from "Desert Solitaire")". More about Bill:"I was born in Thibodaux, Louisiana but grew up in Texas. I earned a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at UT Austin in 1972 and subsequently worked at the "Air Force Weapons Laboratory" in Albuquerque, NM, "Systems, Science and Software" in La Jolla, CA and "Los Alamos National Laboratory" in Los Alamos, NM. My wife (Karen Knoerr Wray) and I love the beautiful mountains and high desert country around Los Alamos, so we stayed here after retirement. Ironically, most of my research at Los Alamos was in passive solar space heating of buildings and biomedical applications of defense technology. Consequently, I designed and built the passive solar home we now live in. It's located on the rim of Pueblo Canyon. From the south-facing rear deck we can see the Sangre de Christo mountains to the east, the lights of Santa Fe to the southeast, and the Jemez mountains to the west. I met and married my wife Karen in Los Alamos. She is currently the resident artist and proprietor of "Karen Wray's Fine Art Gallery and Studio". Drop by and check out her work under "Karen Knoerr Wray" on Facebook. My two sons, David and Kevin are also on facebook, but Kevin can be found only under "Peterbrooke Chocolatier of Winter Park". He and his wife Jami have quite a successful business going there. First born David is located in Portland, OR where he is a successful project engineer in architectural lighting design. Though I have experienced my share of setbacks and disappointments, I am a very happy person and consider myself to be a very lucky man.".
