In 1978, pursued my certification as a licensed EMT and, with backing from the Pontotoc County Commissioners, managed an ambulance service in Ada to prove it could be profitable. In 1981 I was in a working partnership with a local architect to do residential design work. In 1983, family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Spent the next years raising two sons, while camping, fishing and exploring. We built two beautiful houses in Anchorage, doing much of the construction work ourselves. (Really enjoyed that!) g presentations/leave-behinds/ handouts, critiquing presentation techniques, etc. Was recruited in 2003 to work for an architectural firm in downtown Anchorage. Worked on the 8th floor of a high-rise glass building - which literally swayed during earthquakes - very unnerving, but the panoramic views of Cooke Inlet were amazing! Interesting experience.
On a side note...while in Alaska both my son's played ice hockey, the younger one as goalie. He played for various "comp" teams and was drafted at 17 to play for a Louisiana junior team. That was 2005 - the year of Rita AND Katrina....! BAD mom! We brought him home to finish school in Anchorage. (Undaunted, he was drafted again the next year to play for the Dallas/Ft. Worth junior team.)
We built our "retirement" home in 2008 in Lake Dallas, TX - just north of Denton, near Lewisville Lake. Finally did retire and moved to Texas in 2012. Later decided to return to Oklahoma where we are semi-retired and renovating a tri-level, rustic/ contemporary country house on five acres near the edge of Norman and close to Thunderbird Lake.
Spent 30 years in Alaska. Traveled quite a bit (largely with kid's hockey teams). Have lived in Shawnee, OKC, Ada, Anchorage, Lake Dallas and now Norman.
