Deanna's Story
Life
Born in Ashtabula, raised in Plymouth Township, my childhood was simple and fun. I was a member of the Grange and of 4-H and made many friends there.
High school was great! I sang with the Bula Belles quartet for four years, and loved every minute of it. I long for the innocence of those days for my children.
Have been married to David Blough, Jefferson High School class of '53, since 1958. We had three sons and a daughter, but lost our oldest son in a drowning accident when he was 14. It was devastating for my family, especially the two younger boys. Both know their lives would have been different had their brother lived.
We hosted a Japanese boy through the American Field Service for the 1981-82 school year, and it was an experience that changed our lives. Takaya has remained part of our family, bringing his wife here to meet us, and teaching their little gir...Expand for more
l that we are her American grandparents and to call us "Grandma" and Grandpa". We spent 18 days with Takaya and his family when he received his PhD, visiting many beautiful places in Japan.
We now are retired, living in the house where my husband was born. It was built in 1875, and my goal is to restore it to what it was originally in style. Since we are doing the work ourselves it's a slow task!
I have always been involved in our children's activities and found myself directing musicals and plays at Jefferson High School. Those 13 years were some of the best of my life.
At this point in our lives my husband and I hope to continue to enjoy family and friends, some traveling, and good health for many more years! But I wouldn't trade my school years for anything in the world! Neither would he! Our happiest times now are when we spend time with former classmates.
