Bob's Story
Life
I left Ft. Myers in 1979 to attend the University of Florida. At that time I was a certified horseshoer which I did some of that while in college to help pay my expenses. I graduated from UF with a BS degree in Animal and Meat Science. I worked as a beef cattle ranch manager for almost 5 years. I managed as many as 18,000 acres of land and > 1,500 cattle. At some point I realized that getting steam rolled by cows and thrown off horses wasn't exactly a great way to make a living.
I tore my ACL & MCL trying out for the Gaineville police department which I guess was God's way of telling me he didn't want me to become a cop. Afetr recouperating I waorked as a meat cutter. I then went to work at UF's college of medicine as a Biological Scientist. I moved up to Sr. Biol Scientist and did human liver research for almost 8 years, making RNA & DNA and all kinds of cool science stuff. I was divorced in 1990, I married my present wife Emily ( she has 3 kids and 5 grand kids) in 1992. We have been happily married for 13 years now.
In 1995 I worked as a vocational agriculture teacher in Orlando at an inner city school for 3 years. In 1997 we won Grand Champion at the steer show.
In 1998 I ...Expand for more
moved to Arkansa where I worked for Boar's Head Provisons where I supervised the production of 100,000 lbs of ham per day and I supervised the raw receiving area where we received 400,000 lbs of raw meat per day.
I returned to Orlando in 2000 where I have been since working at UCF as a Research Coordinator.
My kids are grown now. My Daughter Jennifer is 22 and trying to become a nurse. She finished her AA degree this past year. She is an EMT working at a local hospital as a ER patient care tech.
My 20 year old son Roland Wellington Banks IV (Bo) named after my grandfather, father and brother is working here in Orlando for a large construction company trying to figure out if he wants to become educated or just work hard.
I am not very good at golf, my body doesn't work as well as it once did. I guess I am paying for my youth. I have my own bar b q smooker that occupies a space in my garage next to the wife's car. I have probably fed about 3000 people over the years and I really enjoy cooking. My motto is you can't trust a skinny cook.
I am looking forward to our 30th reunion next year it will be only the 3rd time I have been back to good ole Ft. Myers in the past 30 years.
