Bob's Story

Hey, Here is a brief history of what I/we have been doing for the last 47 years: I Graduated from HS in 1962. Lynne graduated HS in 1963. I went to Harbor JC for one Qtr. but, that was the year of Big Wednesday and I had more fun surfing then going to school. Harbor did not appreciate that so they throw me out. About that time I was fired from my part time job (unjustified!). My parents (May they rest in peace) said I needed to do something or move under a bridge somewhere. So, Mike Newgass and I joined the Air Force. He had some little medical problem so he got out and I didn¿t. We went in on the buddy plan however they would not let me out. I spent the next four years being a flight engineer on a C-133 cargo aircraft flying into Viet Nam. I guess I had it made because I received my draft notice while in boot camp. I got shot at a lot but only took a small hit once. I guess that beats being in rice patties and subject to all that hand to hand Army combat. Got out in 1967 and went back to school on the GI Bill. I Graduated in 1971 with a BS degree in Aerospace engineering and an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic license. Lynne and I were married in 1968, and still married today. She helped put me through college by working at Douglas Aircraft Co. until somehow she got pregnant and we had our first child (Wendy) in August of 1971. I went to work for Douglas Aircraft as a Customer Service Engineer. Worked in Long Beach for 3 years then went into Field Service and ended up in the Bay area for 3 years. We had our second and last child (Michelle) in 1976. We then figured out what caused babies and stopped at two. After that I was hired by AiResearch as the Quality Manager for the Aircraft division in Rancho Dominguez (Compton). Lived in (PV), Westfield, until just before Prop. 13 was passed when my parents, Lynne¿s parents, and we were driven out while property taxes were doubling each year. We moved to Lakewood for a few years. Lynne was just playing mother and stayed home while the children grew up. We got sick of the traffic in the LA area so we sold our house, I quit my job and we moved to Paso Robles and lived at Lake Nacimiento. I worked for the Government at Fort Hunter Liggett (Hearst Ranch) as an Engineer for 6 months then got an Engineering job on the Space Shuttle at Vandenberg AFB for one year until they cancelled the launch complex program. I then work...Expand for more
ed as a Aircraft Mechanic for American Airlines/American Eagle Airlines in San Luis Obispo until I took over the maintenance department as the Vice President of Maintenance Page 2 and Engineering in 1985. American Airlines wanted me to move to Dallas TX and I didn¿t so I took a Job with the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington DC but was allowed to work from home off a computer while not on the road keeping an eye on large airlines such as American, United, Delta, etc. After 14 years, I got sick of working for the Government because of the waste of my tax money. I was diagnosed with an extremely rare disease without a cure and between that and the ¿Government¿ I choose to retire (2 years ago) and enjoy life. Now I play golf every other day and fish and hunt and just plain screw off all the time. I LOVE IT! Lynne has a community service job (I call it that because it costs us money for her to work) and takes care of elderly people with bad feet. She has a foot care business. We live in Kernville just north of Lake Isabella, CA. We live on 2 ½ acres with a lake view. We sold (or they died) all our horses (6+). We have had an interesting life moving around, lake to lake, and, not that we don¿t like people, we keep moving to remote areas to get out of the insanity of the big city. Our town only has 1200 people and half of them are week-enders. Paso Robles got too crowded with 20K people. Who would have thunk Lynne and I would still be together after being together for, what, 47 years? My daughter Wendy is a teacher but, even with tenure, got laid off this year and is living with us until she is rehired. I hope it¿s soon, not that I don¿t love my daughter and her 14 year son, but, I don¿t want them this close. My other daughter lives on a 160 acre ranch in Paso Robles with her 6 year daughter and horses, dogs, cats etc. Both my kids didn¿t last in the marriage seen, only about 2 years each. Oh well! Marriage is work, hard work, really hard work! We made good investments over the years, custom built and own our home, a duplex here in town, and some income property in La Jolla. We are not rich, but, we do live well. Wow, our life story in two pages and a few pictures. Hope this finds you all well, BOB To find me look for my face in the book.
