Bob's Story
Life
I have been in two long-term committed relationships. (The state says I can't use the word "marriage.") My first husband died in 1991, 6 weeks before our 10-year anniversary. My second husband and I separated in early 2006 after being together for 8 years. As with all separations, there's multiple angles to it, but, bottom line is that we still care deeply for each other, but our dreams are in different directions.
College
I am finally working on my Master's Degree at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. I hope to be granted a Master of Divinity degree with a specialization in sexuality and religion. My first semester was the fall of 2005, and I anticipate this degree program taking 4 years to complete. After getting this degree, I hope to be ordained by the United Church of Christ and start serving a church somewhere.
UPDATE 05/18/2009 - Well, I did it!!! I completed the requirements for my MDiv in December of '08, and will be marching with my fellow students next Sunday...Expand for more
, May 24, 2009 at Pacific School of Religion's 142nd Annual Commencement. My specialization changed, however, from sexuality and religion to post-colonial and process theologies.
Workplace
My favorite job: systems analyst with Nellcor in Hayward and then Pleasanton. Great company, great co-workers, great management, wonderful product. Unfortunately, I wound up on disability in 1994 and have not been able to work since. My doctor thinks I may be able to return to work early in 2006. At that time, I plan on going into the ministry, working with the United Church of Christ denomination.
UPDATE 05/18/2009 - I have completed all the requirements for ordination within the United Church of Christ and am currently awaiting a call to serve in a local church.
Military
Are you serious??? Luckily, I was in the last round of the draft of the Vietnam war and my number never came up. I don't know what I would have done had I been drafted, especially since I was a "hell no... we won't go" kinda kid.
