Bob's Story
Hi ECHS classmates!
I will not be able to attend the planned 50th ECHS reunion this fall. My wife is back in school getting NYState certification to teach Math and Physics. Her classes and scheduling includes many night courses and our 9 yr old
daughter (yes, it was a miracle!) is in school during the day. Since retiring this past spring, my role has been Mr Mom aka "The connector". Thus travel and time off this coming fall is not possible for me.
Here is a very brief synopsis of my past 50 yrs
- played freshman football at Cal, made 1st team defense as a linebacker and had my knee badly injured in the last play of the Stanford game. Because of this injury and others to my elbows, I failed my physical to 'participate' in the Vietnam War. The ensuing 5 elbow operations and 4 knee surgeries seems like a fair trade in retrospect.
- received my BS, MS, PhD in engin...Expand for more
eering from Cal plus an MS in Anatomy
- all the academic stuff was interrupted mid-stream by 2 yrs in the Peace Corps to teach high school math/science in the Fiji Islands in 1971-72. The late Susan Blackard preceded me to Fiji as a PC volunteer and I'm so sorry to have missed the opportunity to share our experiences
- I taught Anatomy at City College of San Francisco and UC Berkeley Extension,
- was a lumberjack in the redwood forest outside of Arcata, Ca.
- and spent the last 30 yrs working for Xerox (60+ US patents) in Rochester, NY
- I have 2 older children, both were college swimmers and now are doctors and, of course Michelle, age 9, shown in my profile picture, who is also a swimmer. My children have taught me to swim all the strokes, and I love doing individual medleys but my times get slower year over year and now I don't look at the 'beeping' clock!
