Bob's Story

That was taken by my wife, Jan, on a trip over White Pass in the Cascades of Washington near our home, in Oct of 2020. Biography? Ugh! Where do I begin? Due to a family situation, I had to move to Ventura, CA midway thru my Junior Year, and graduated mid-term a year later from Buena High. When I married Linda in Sept '76, she already had a daughter, so I had an "instant" family. My son was born Sept '77 during the height of my "Harvest" Band heydays. We moved to Oklahoma in '82. After my daughter was born in '83, I started attending Murray State College on a music scholarship, and graduated in '85 with a Computer Science Degree. That summer, I was also accepted into MENSA, and have been a member ever since. We moved back to Calif in '86, deciding to settle down in the Central Valley rather than Pomona or Ventura. 6 weeks later, we mourned (along with the rest of the nation) the loss of "The Challenger 7." When my 6-year stint with the Army and National Guard was over in '89, I decided to go back on the road as a professional driver. I started out driving solo, and ended up training over-the-road Professional Drivers for c almost 3 decades for a couple of large interstate carriers. I have 3.5 million miles without an accident and was the Grand Champion in the State truck driving championship. I placed 5th at the National competition later that summer. I have a custom 24-track digital recording studio and still compose, produce, and record my songs. I love music. My compositions run the entire gamut: from Rock to Ballads to Country to Blues. I ...Expand for more
love Blues, and dearly miss Stevie Ray Vaughan. I have personally met quite a few artists and bands while playing gigs, or crossing paths while on the road, but the highlight of my musical ventures was meeting the entire Lynyrd Skynyrd Band in 2000 (when they came to my hometown to play) and hanging out with them after the show. They are truly driven by southern hospitality (although they are fueled by southern whiskey...) About 10 autographs adorn the wall of my studio, ranging from Chuck Berry to the entire Lynyrd Skynyrd band, Garth Brooks, Wynona Judd, and many more. Our youngest daughter, 21 year-old Margaret Jean McKay, passed away suddenly on Christmas Eve in '04 and a major house fire 18 months later destroyed most of the mementos we had of her. 3 months after we moved back into the house after the repairs were completed (and only 3 days from the 1-year anniversary of the fire), my wife of 31 years passed away in her sleep at the ripe old age of 50. I recently re-married and we have since moved to SW Washington, where I am the Regional CDL Training Director for a very large local trucking company. I completed my Bachelor Degree in IT, but I'm not even using it in my career. My, how things work out, huh? My main interest is still recording and copyrighting all of my songs, and I would like to finish copyrighting and recording my entire catalog of 150 songs and countless poems before I kick off. I would love to hear from any of you, and I'm looking forward to the 50-year reunion. Does anybody have any brown hair that I can borrow...?
