Bob's Story

I'm Bob Simpson- Springbrook HS Class of 1965. Feel free to contact me if you remember me...or even if you don't. I was born in Washington DC and lived in the Shaw area until I was 5 years old. My family moved to Glenmont where I attended Pleasant View Elementary, Weller Road Elementary and Belt Junior High School. At the age of 13, my parents moved to the Hillandale area of Silver Spring where I attended Sligo Junior High and then Springbrook H.S. I was pretty inconspicuous at Springbrook until my senior year when I became captain of the "It's Academic" team. With my teammates Phil Arkin and Peggy Harris we advanced to the semi--finals, but lost at that level. "It's Academic" was a high school TV quiz show hosted by Mac McGarry. I attended the University of Maryland and Catholic University of America from 1965-1971. I became involved in the protest movements of the time and remain committed to those ideals today. t of the Venceramos Brigade and met Estelle Carol. Estelle was a member of the Chicago Women's Liberation Union. We fell in love and agreed to live with one another I moved to Chicago in 1975 and became a teacher in the inner city where I worked for over 20 years. I am now married with two kids. Currently I am the partner of Estelle Carol in her graphic design business. We work for non-profits, educational institutions, unions and social advocacy groups. We are also labor cartoonists and our work is circulated among union and alternative publications in print and online. I live in Oak Park IL. Estelle and I are very active in the local peace movement. After being born into the bloodiest century in human history--the last thing we want is to live through more senseless wars. We're also labor activists because we live in a dog-eat-dog cat-eat-mouse-economy and if we don't stick together, we're all goin' down. You can visit my blog at bobboblog.org
