Bob's Story

Life: contact on FB as Bob Sims or email robert at teaembassy.com. After a short stint in the Army, just after graduating from Auburn, I went into campus organizational work for twelve years; ending that period as campus director for Campus Crusade for Christ at the University of Texas. I worked in 1982 for governor Bill Clements in his oraganiztional efforts for reelection. There was no direct connection between the politics and the Christian group, I was just ready to leave and always had some interest in politics. Organizing and motivating volunteers was my work in both. Then I began an 18 year career as a financial consultant-now my "clients" were volunteers! I got my training in NYC for finance and survived 1982 Manhattan as a southern boy. During all that I married Carol Eidschun from Atlanta and we have raised three boys. One of them runs a website for a family business and you can find pictures of us on our website at TeaEmbassy.com. We sell specialty tea from all over the world and tea related items. In the second quarter of 2000, I was offered a position to come back into non-profit work. I worked for Chuck Colson and Prison Fellowship as a major donor representative in the Southwest for about three and a half years. We were involved in some historically significant changes in the prison and justice systems which is our goal- to help people affected by crime as victim, perpetrator or justice process. I would love to hear from anyone: I have lived in Austin ...Expand for more
TX since 1972 and miss hearing about the South firsthand. I now am pursuing several projects, mostly overseas. I traveled three weeks in Africa (S. Africa, Uganda, Egypt), two weeks in the Baltic Region, and after spending Christmas in Germany 2007, I will have spent three weeks in Germany, and a week in Argentina. I am working to build what could be called "sustainable communities" around the world for people who do not have a country, a place to live and a way to support themselves. We hope to train them how to restart, start ( in the case of orhpans) and sustain a happy life in the context of a value-added community. These will be simple pedestrian friendly villages, some in remote places. Currently, on the ground, I am supporting a community in Tanzania built from scratch in the bush, not even a road there at first. It is about 30 miles east of Lake Victoria, near Uganda and near Kenya also. It will have the only hospital for 300 miles, a boarding school, an orphanage, a farm to sustain the orphanage, and a trucking company to sustain the training center and business needs of the community. There are almost no transport vehicles in the African bush, so this helps the whole region. You can find something on it if you Google "City of Hope." Since I am not trained technically in architecture, I am the visionary for some of these communities and besides that, and finding financing for the real estate, my primary contribution is healing of the broken hearts of the people.
