Bob's Story

Greetings from just West of Springfield in Battlefield, MO. 70 years old last Feb 12 and now I'm closer to 71 than 70. What a rip! Oh well, the alternative is ... I didn't get my garage sealed up last fall so my shop is piled high with boxes to be opened and put away come spring. Well, Spring got here and lasted about 2 seconds or so it seemed and the longer I procrastinated, the hotter it got. Are any of you who are approximately my age experiencing a protracted period of disinclination? I know exactly why businesses aren't hiring and no one is spending much money. Even my paltry endeavors seem doomed before I even get started. I blame Obama 100% for all this unsettling economic situation. And now, he's trying to blame Republicans for all his BS economic policies and jacking up the national debt. But then many of us know what he's up to. Gotta drag America down so we'll fit into the Euro concept of the "new America". Whoops... he's lying again! I know that because his lips are moving and lately, they seem to be moving ALL the time!!! Finally let go of the coin for a flat screen so Fox News looks lots better now. Sandy and I spend our cold winter days now on F/B and watching Fox from our double recliners. The three pups snuggle in around us and my favorite question now is, "What's for lunch?" or 'what's for dinner?" After lunch,we always curl up on the duo-king with just enough room for us, the three puppies and Lexie, our yellow lab for a short... or long nap... whatever. There's plenty of action around the house though what with the other two families and two grand-kids. I don't do a lot of heavy lifting now with the two "boys" always pretty much handy. (Chris & Cory) If I go flying past my "do not exceed", I'll just pray for, as some of the old folks used to say, a smiling providence as I finish up my stay here. I'm all ready to go shootin' my two new 1851 Rem .44 cap & Ball revolvers I got for Christmas. I need to start casting some balls but I got enough with them to try 'em out. Kinda funny... when I hold both of them kinda crossed over my chest in the mirror, it does carry one back to those days of old. Cocking the actions has a sound reminiscent of the old cowboy action movies we used to see on Saturday Mornings at the free kid movies. Kind of a fast triple metal click just like the cowboy's shootin-arns. Most of you likely didn't know that I gun smithed from about agr1...Expand for more
4. Me and Coffer Day did some work right along for Ike Martin. The second year I was on the Springfield PD, I became their gun tech out in the old jail behind the old PD down on Market St. Got so busy, I quit and opened my full service shop on Olive St just across the street from the old Fox Theater back door. I'm setting up my gun shop again in our garage but likely just for friends and my own entertainment. Fix up some broken ones to take to the gun shows. Gun Smithing is one of those things that once your in, you just never really want to get out of it. It just seems to hold an allure for life. One spends interminable hours learning all one needs to know and perfecting special skills and it would seem such a waste of all that energy to ever let it all go. As an aside, sure would like to know what happened to a lot of the young preacher wanna-be's I went to BBC with. I don't think many of them stuck with it. Becoming a Calvinist took me out of the Fundamentalist circles I grew up in. But I feel that my time in the Fundamentalists and my strict rearing gave me the grit I would need to eventually face down a couple of real characters I would come across in my first years as a Calvinist. (GL & BL) They know who they are. But I stood the test and came out the other side stronger than when I went in so providence saw me through. I''ve been thrown out of the last three churches we attended because of my Calvinism and bad-mouthed by those people to other churches. But it never occurred to me once to go along to get along and I've never taken a step back from those grand old doctrines of Grace and don't ever plan on being untrue to the faith no matter who the devil throws in my way. I'm more than happy to look forward to God sorting it all out. I wear their disfavor like a Badge of Honor as the scriptures tell me to do. Might want to check out my favorite forum on FB. It's "Anything About Guns". Go to the "Discussion" section in smaller print on the left of the page. Some pretty radical discussions and most of us don't hold back but pretty much say what we think. If you hate guns, it wouldn't be a very comfortable place for you. If you love guns as most of us do, you'll be right at home. VOTE REPUBLICAN!!! A VOTE AGAINST OBAMA IS A VOTE FOR SANITY IN GOVERNMENT ONCE AGAIN!!! UPDATE... The garage/shop is almost done. I'll eventually throw up some pics if you care to see the progress.
