Bob's Story
Left Boise in 1974 to go to college and never really came back. Pursued my life-long dream of becoming an architect. Started my design career in 1979 after graduating from U of Idaho. Moved to Tacoma, Washington because that's where the job was and ended up liking it up there. Became licensed in the State of Washington in 1982. Took a job in the Olympia School District in 1991 managing K-12 school construction projects and developed skills I never thought I had. Went back to private practice in 2008 and finally retired in 2015 after 37 satisfying, creative working years.
I met my wife Joni in 1998 when she was hired as a new middle school principal in Olympia. We fell in love, married in 2003, and moved to Olympia. She had two children from her previous marriage and I had three, so we blended them all together. They ...Expand for more
are all still in the Pacific NW and we now have six grandchildren to spoil as well. More coming, maybe?
My dad passed away in 2009 at the age of 81. My mom continued to live in Boise for a number of years before deciding to move to a senior retirement center in Olympia to be close to Joni and me and all of the grandchildren. She is doing really well being 91 years old.
We have a blessed life. Joni and I live in Kailua, Hawaii for half the year (winter months) and return to Olympia the other half (summer months). We believe we live in the two most beautiful places on earth. She does volunteer work in both communities and I am still fiddling in design, now working on net zero energy, affordable homes. We also do our share of traveling, whether its trips to Europe (we love Italy!) or RV-ing across the country. Life is good!
