Bob's Story
Life
Hello,
Whether you are an old friend, an acquaintance from school or just cruising around on the classmate's web, you looked up my biography just to satisfy a curiosity as to who I am and what I've been up to for the last, oh, almost forty years. So, hopefully, this will provide you with a brief synopsis of my life since the old high school days.
Yes, I still live in this area. That makes a grand total of 48 years. Back in high school, you probably remember me as one of the Dutch dairy boys who was basically rather quiet and shy. Not much has changed in that respect, I still am rather quiet and shy.
After graduation, I worked on my father's dairy until he sold the dairy in 1973. In reference to the military, I was classified by the Army as "1Y" on my induction card, (not eligible for military induction unless war was declared). Subsequently, I never served in any branch of the military. Friends tell me that I was one of the lucky ones, however; I'm not so sure about that. Viet Nam was a historic part of our generation. Good, bad or indifferent, it was an important piece of history in our generation that I never took an active part in.
From 1973 to 1974 I drove a big rig truck hauling bulk cement. I decided that truck driving wasn't the life for me, so I quit driving truck and took a job working at the old "Potlatch Paper Mill". During that same course of time, I was lifting weights and body building at a gym along with numerous off duty police officers. Through them, I formed an interest in police work. The officers that I worked out with all encouraged me to take the test and become a police officer.
I followed their suggestion and took the test. I was hired on as a Reserve Police Officer with this city. I frequently rode with Mickey France and several other Graduates who became police officers. I also was introduced to and began dating a beautiful young lady who worked as a clerk at another police department.
In 1976, I ...Expand for more
was hired on as a full time police officer with Chino and attended the Sheriff's Academy, class of 45. A year later, the lady that I was dating, (Louise) also became a sworn police officer for the city of Arcadia. In the course of our dating relationship and employment as police officer's, we often worked the same case loads. We both worked the "Sexual Assault" and "Crimes against Children" case load for six years. Needless to say, we had many interesting dinner conversations together. During this same course of time, I got myself back into school and eventually, I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree. After the detective bureau, I specialized in DUI investigations and became a leader in DUI arrests.
In the year 1983, Louise and I got married and have been married ever since. Can you believe it, I was 33 years old when I got married for the first time. We never had any children, not by our choice, that was just the way God intended our life together to be. It was something that we both had to learn to accept as God's will.
Louise and I are both retired now. I retired 12-30-04 after 28 1/2 years with the police department and at the age of 54 years old. We bought a new motor home several years ago and a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle when I retired. Sort of a retirement gift to myself. We love camping and we've met so many new friends through the different motorcycle clubs that we ride along with. Louise is a good rider. We just recently returned from a six day bike trip up to the Oregon boarder and back down. It was a total blast!!!
So, that's my life in a nutshell. I am now 55 years old and retired. I own three houses and eight apartments that keep me plenty busy. Louise and I are living the good life. We enjoy staying home or traveling with friends when we feel like it. In between that, I can always ride as a Reserve Police Officer.
To all you guys and ladies out there; you take care, and, "Be Safe."
