Bob's Story

UPDATES: schrey2atyahoodotcom '66-'68: CSM Spring '67: Chapman College World Campus Afloat 1968-1970: BA PoliSci Stanford 1970-1980: Auto business in Bay area, N. Calif & N. Nevada. 1979: Married to Karen. Married, no kids, one Honduran Goddaughter, and have our third Miniature Schnauzer named Lucy. 1980-1995: Ford-Mercury dealer in Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada. 1995-2000: Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras-sold tropical island real estate to Gringos and others. Learned to dive, and lived the Jimmy Buffett life for 5 years. 7/2000-11/2001: SABBATICAL-20,000 mile road trip through Canada, U.S, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, & El Salvador. 11/2000: Lured back into car business by an old mentor as General Manager of the Dodge Chrysler Jeep dealership in Hollister. California is weird, I've been living out of the US for 20 years and its a reverse culture shock coming back. 09/2002-06/2003: The Hollister gig didn't work out as a permanent deal so we took the opportunity to go on a 30,000 mile road trip from Hollister up to Calgary, across Canada to the north tip of Newfoundland, back down through Maine across the country to Nogales, AZ, and then down to southern Mexico [Oaxaca] crisscrossing the country a few times, then back up to Calgary through California. I love to travel. In my past life I must have been a gypsy, and the passion continues. Fall 2003-6/2004: Spent the fall & winter in Calgary. Took a trip over to B.C., stayed in Victoria for a month, and then traveled down to Idaho to settle for a bit. 6/2004-present: Moved full-time to our condo in Sun Valley, ID. Fully retired. 01/02/2005: The big news in our lives is that we have a Honduran goddaughter on Roatan that we have just put through high school [on the island], and we are bringing her up to Idaho this year to put her through university. It will be interesting to take on a 17 year old "daughter" at this stage of our lives. We are very excited about this. 12/2005: We lost our beloved...Expand for more
2nd miniature schnauzer Diabla to cancer. 2/2006: Sun Valley is too cold, even though we enjoy skiing. Probable move to AZ this year to thaw out. 5/2006: Acquired our new miniature schnauzer puppy, "Lucy". Got her from a breeder south of Salt Lake City. 10/2006: We're spending the winter in Sun Valley since our house didn't sell during the summer. Hopefully it will sell next summer so we can relocate to a warmer spot! 9/2007: I had a big surprise with a heart attack, got choppered over to the Cardio Unit at St Lukes in Boise and got a stent put in my right coronary artery. What a wake up call! Updated my diet and trying to exercise more. I was very lucky. 6/2009: We finally sold our Sun Valley Idaho residence and moved full-time to Victoria, BC. No snow [not much anyway] to shovel and a better health care system overall. 01/2010: We're all moved in to our renovated townhouse in the older James Bay neighborhood. We're only 6 blocks from the Empress, a few houses off the ocean, and can walk or bike to just about everything. This is a great location!!! We are so grateful to be living here. 11/2010: A nice mini-reunion at The Goose in October and hopefully more will show for our 45th next June 26th [2011] at Rosottis. It was really good to see everyone who showed up. I'm looking for email addresses of classmates to increase the size of our master contact list for future functions-please send them to me if you have some. We have lived in Victoria for almost 1 1/2 years now, and its such a great city. I am so grateful to be living here! SOME IMPORTANT THINGS LEARNED IN LIFE: Be grateful for what I have, don't take things for granted. Always cultivate courage to continue the journey in pursuit of more compassion, empathy, tolerance and love....... for others,.............and myself. If you're passionate about something, do it, don't wait. You might not want to do it, or be able to do it later. Growing up and getting old is not for sissies.
