Bob's Story
I graduated from Heidelberg in 1964. I had an interest in politics and government and was immediately hired by the Federal Government as a Budget Analyst for the Department of Agriculture. In 1965 I was married to a classmate, Anne Gintz, of Erie, PA. We set up housekeeping in Washington, DC. I continued my graduate education at night by attending Law School at Georgetown U., but couldn't handle the pace of school and working full time. I then pursued a Masters at American U. in Washington and received a Masters in 1969. In the meantime I moved into a position with the U.S. Air Force in 1966. I left there to work for the Dep't of Health Education & Welfare in 1970, still in the budget field. Anne and I drifted apart and became separated/divorced in 1971. I met a local woman named Pat Hufnagel and we were married in 1973. She had 3 kids by a previous marriage and we had three of our own together. San Francisco. We lived there from 1973-1978. San Francisco was a wonderful place to live. HEW brought me back to Washington in 1978 and I worked with them until 1989 in a variety of financial management positions. My last job there was as Budget Officer for the Family Support Administration which was responsible for administering the Federal Welfare program. In 1989 I was hired to manage the operations budget of the Federal Aviation Administration. I worked for FAA until my retirement in 1997. Since then we have relocated to Central Florida where we live in retirement comfort and enjoy golf, the pool, dancing and social interaction with our friends and neighbors. We see our children and grandchildren as much as we can. They are scattered around the country and we now have one great grand daughter. I am Treasurer of our local Homeowners Association and we are active in the local Lutheran Church where I have served for several years as an Elder.
