Bobbie's Story
I really didn't graduate like I was supposed to in 1975 but I did get my GED many years later. The Jr. High School I went to Andrew Carnegie and I didn't like my birth name because I was named after my dad, so I used my baptismal name which is ROBERTA, so most of you will probably know me as Robbie or Roberta, the priest who baptized me insisted on using ROBERTA because that is the feminine of Robert or Bobby and Bobbie, it was a Spanish church (Our Lady of Guadalupe Church) and he barely spoke English. Sorry I meant to add that and I know its a lot to write but being that my friends have for years tried to find "BLONDE ROOTS" on me for being ditzy this is ME! LOL!
I worked for the state soon thereafter off and on Seasonal and/or Temporary jobs. Then finally in 1986 I started working for the California Department of Insurance permanently. In 1991 when we had our first elected Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi, I applied to work in his office and become a member of the executive office staff. He is a great man and wonderful boss. He ran for Governor in 93, we lost and he left to work for President Clinton. I still volunteered for him off and on and got to meet people I never would have met had it not been for h...Expand for more
im, politics is hard work and I just can't do that anymore. I retired in 2009 as I was very ill and while applying for retirement suffered a heart attack and had a quadruple bypass in Sept 2009, that surgery changed my idea of returning to work. I've been blessed to have so many friends who prayed for me and even when the doctors told my family it didn't look good because I wasn't breathing on my own, I believe the messages I received and phone calls got me thru it all and on the 4th day they weaned me off the machine. I'm still working on my health and it's an uphill battle and at times I have felt like just giving up, but I'm hanging in there. I need to at least live long enough to see my nephew's kids, he's like a son to me, I have no children because I didn't want to have them without being married and I found that I just wasn't gonna settle down. My nephew came to live with me at age 8 and he's all grown up now and gone. I'm hoping to connect with old friends I haven't seen since we moved from Fair Oaks in 1974 and moved to North Highlands. My favorite vacation spot is Mendocino California, I try to go for a few days once in a while to clear my head.
I have a Facebook page, yeah I know it's lame but oh well LOL
