Bobbie's Story
Find me on Facebook to communicate with me.
The day after graduation I moved with my family to Kansas City, MO. We drove across the mountains in my dad's 1978 Ford Ranger. It had a big wood rack on the back; talk about the Beverly Hill billies. I went to a city where I couldn't even take a walk down the street to the park by myself. It was brutal.
I always thought I'd marry early, have lots of kids, and be an in-charge woman in a power suit. Funny how God had a different plan. I had to get a lot of crazy out of my system.
I didn't get married until 30 (totally worth the wait), I have two kids and one on the way (not the five I dreamed of-but happy with what I've got), and I quit my corporate job to stay home and grow/raise kids. I freelance in marketing communications. (It's nice to work from home when you want and for whom you want.)
I swore I would never date anyone I worked with or anyone younger than me. I married a guy who wor...Expand for more
ked in the same marketing department as I did and who is two and one-half years younger than I am.
I don't just run into anyone I went to high school with. Although one year I did just run into Darren Kinion (hope I spelled that right) at a restaurant in Pagosa Springs while on a trip there with some friends from KC. But that was a freak occurrence.
I miss Colorado and I miss a lot of people I used to know. I hope they are all doing well.
In the last 18 years, I've traveled to Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, California, Arizona, Wisconsin, Virginia, Maryland, Iowa, Illinois, Hawaii, Mexico, Spain, Israel, and Jordan. I've learned that babies suck the brains right out of you, situations change, and so do people. I've also learned that being a stay-at-home mom is not a luxury for people whose husbands make a lot of money. It's a sacrificial choice, it can make you crazy at times, and it's totally worth it.
