Bobby's Story
I was born in Washington, DC. But, I grew up on my maternal grandparents' farm in the Landon community about 5 miles north of Gulfport, MS. I lived in the greater Houston, TX area for 48 years from 1972-2020. My wife and I retired in 2012 after long careers in engineering and senior leadership (mine) and information technology and senior leadership (hers). We relocated in August 2020 to Charter House, a retirement community owned and operated by Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Since retiring, I have been able to spend more time in genealogy and family history research and in hiking and traveling. In 2022, I became a Mayo Clinic Volunteer...Expand for more
serving as a greeter and tour guide in their Historical Suite in the 1928 Plummer Building here in Rochester. Since then, I have also begun volunteering in Heritage Hall in the 1955 Mayo Building and leading a History & Heritage tour through Mayo’s downtown campus. We like being in a small town again, being able to walk (inside when the weather’s not great) to doctor’s appointments, restaurants, the library, and to just about anywhere else in town. And, the people here are very friendly. There are some days here in the wintertime that we don’t go outside. But, there were some days in the summertime in Houston that we didn’t go outside!
