Beverly's Story
The last year has had plenty of exciting moments in it. Chuck and I have been married since 1969, and we are both half Swedish. That became a very rewarding connection last year, when we were chosen to be on a Reality show in Sweden, for Americans of Swedish decent . The show is called "Allt for Sverige." We roamed about
Sweden for 5 weeks with our 9 other cast members, and a crew of about 30. We learned a lot about ourselves and each other, living that close. We adore these new friends. We were AFS's 5th season, and we lasted till the end. We each had a family day in a place connected to our heritage, and they gave us the information they had researched. The show aired in Nov. and Dec. of 2015 for 8 Sundays. Each episode had a team challenge, and an individual elimination. We had challenges based on hitting balls into fiery hoops, archery, huge jig saw puzzles, grabbing crawfish cages out of the sea, and jousting, to name a few. Someone was eliminated in each episode, and went immediately home. The eliminations all had to do with memorization. I was surprised that I still could use my head. We managed to come in third against people who were from 20-45, years old.
We have 8 active grandchildren, 4 Boys and 4 girls, that live close by. A lot of our time is shared with our larger family....Expand for more
We love to do things with the kids, and I had a very memorable time with 5 of them this last fall. I love the State Fair of Texas, and I'm a regular attender. I took 5 of our grandchildren to the Fair, and four of them got stuck on a broken ride, when the Crazy Mouse car they were in lost a wheel on the downward slope. They were stuck in the 98 degree heat for an hour and a half. Not all of our outings are quite that memorable., but now they can check " Got stuck on a ride," off their bucket lists. We miss the Midwest, but with everyone here, I'm sure our bones will stay in Texas. Chuck is a Yooper, and we'll head to the U.P., in July for his 50th reunion.
Two years ago I thought I'd like to work again, and spent a year stocking cards for Hallmark, bad decision. During the 1990's I worked for the School district, and that job was great. The Hallmark job took time and energy away from everything.
We like to travel and we've done a lot of that. We usually drive when we're in the U.S., and of course fly when we're headed elsewhere. We are really enjoying this time in our lives, but I sure wish the grandchildren weren't out growing us as fast as the kids did. I must be older than I feel.
I am really looking forward to our 50th reunion next year.
