Bonnie's Story

Hello fellow grads of Russell High: I am a long way from home, in Alaska since 1976 after 4 years at KSU and a really fun year in Kansas City. Have a daughter and son who got their college degrees and are back in Anchorage--employed and NOT living at home! So we continue to work at our small architectural firm in Anchorage, where the seasons are very intense and change quickly. Are you headed north? So glad that Mike Bender has Jean Festa helping with the 45 year reunion and that it will happen. I am planning to visit Russell again and look forward to seeing you all there. 2015 update: daughter was hired as chief of staff for a state senator so relocates to Juneau Alaska for the legislative sessions. Son works for BP in the Challenger program and is currently doing a stint on the North Slope as a facility engineer. So they are both here/not here. We have been enjoying wonderful summers at our Big Lake cabin and love being on the water at home as well. A fall trip to Europe with a day in Dubai was a great break from the frenetic summer activity; getting ready for ski season now but still have little or no snow (January 2016). Let me know what you are doing. I would really like to hear from all of you. 2016 update: not much change except that now that it is August the reunion is closer and I am helping Jean with the mailings. A great and record-setting warm summer so far and all visitors are gone so time to watch the season wind down and prep for snow in late October. Still have fishing, berry picking and a salt water adventure to take in August! 2019 Update: missed a few y...Expand for more
ears but still in the same routine. Working with no formal retirement announcement YET, but I am ready. Daughter left the legislative staffer position and works with Alaska Oil and Gas; Son and girlfriend Pam married at our Big Lake cabin just in July while we had record breaking heat and draught. THAT was a lot of work, but they had a great time and are very happy. We have 2 grand dogs, and like to visit Mexico in the winter. Have not been back to Kansas since 2016 but looking forward to 50!! th class reunion in 2021 during Prariesta. Jean Denning Festa and Pam Weeks Ptacek and I are helping with the event. Hope you will ALL plan to come!! 2020 update: like all of you we are living in the time of this pandemic. Alaska closed early and is just in May beginning reopening. We are winding down our office activity and still closed as of this writing (8 weeks) We are really looking forward to visiting Kansas and seeing classmates at the reunion next year. It will be the 150th year celebration of Russell-Prariesta and our class 50th year reunion. Amazing, huh? So please plan to attend and ask others to also--it will be a special event. Be well and safe! 2021 UPDATE: It's beginning to look a lot like our 50 year reunion. Check out the registration info and even if you can't attend in June, send in your memory book info so we can all connect. Pam Ptacek, Jean Denning and I are working on the reunion and cautiously optimistic that we will be able to gather safely. It will be fun and after this last year we could all use some of that. First grandbaby due in August!+ IT'S A GIRL

Happy rhubarb at the lake. It’s gonna become a pie. Really early this year!
A hazy morning at Big Lake but it will be near 90 today! Air quality much better than Anchorage. Everyone please please be fire safe. It’s going to be another hot dry week. Enjoy this incredible summer!
Yes this keeps happening.
Trying again. An amazing quick stop between south rim Grand Canyon and a little time at Zion. A great example of nature’s power and the beautiful Colorado River!
Angel cards are something I was introduced to by my dear friend Barb Maier. Among other things, you can draw one for conscious intention about a certain event or time in your life. These are some I drew in the last many mon
Yes I am amazed but not surprised. This is the wedding angel card intention. ❤️
