Bonnie's Story

Workplace Never thought I'd be in sales, but my first job was selling radio advertising...air, that is! From that I went into computer software sales specific to broadcast stations. I had an opportunity to move to a more "corporate" environment with a job offer at a large health insurance firm based in NYC - although I was in the northeastern NY market. I found that I do NOT like working for an employer which has thousands of employees. Returning to the smaller-sized firm, I began marketing an Employee Assistance Program (mental health instead of physical health). I was interim director of a batterers' program for a year and then returned to the EAP as its director where I was from 1996 to 2022. I also returned to running the batterer's program for the last few years of my full-time employment, also.. In my "spare" time I taught at Clinton Community College (from the spring of 1992 for almost 18 years while doing the other jobs) and at Guibord's School of Dance (from 1979-2022). The closest I have come to fulfilling my "dream" job - or at least what I thought was to be my dream job when I was in college - was teaching at CCC. I thought it would be English literature, but life moved me into the arts and theatre, specifically, hence my current foci. Now that ...Expand for more
I am retired, I no longer have to wonder what I'll do. As part of my full-time employment for decades, I was a mental health advocate with a focus on suicide prevention, intervention and postvention. Now, I am blessed to continue this work on a free-lance basis which is taking me around the Northeast. and to DC. Volunteering has always been a part of my life - starting as a Candystriper at Mercy Hospital oh, those many years ago! I find myself totally caught up in volunteering whenever I am not 'working'. Right now, my energies are given to the North Country Mission of Hope (current VP and Chair of the Medical Committee-I am also a past President), the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church (Chair of the Trustees and Church Technical Director) and the Plattsburgh Rotary Club (where I was President and then served as District Governor throughout eastern Ontario, Nunavut, western Quebec and northern NY). I was the founding Chair of the global Rotary Action Group on Mental Health Initiatives and have since moved to Treasurer and Global Partnership Development. I get to travel to the international conventions each year and have enjoyed these sojourns around the world. I am blessed with my two daughters, 2 sons-in-law and 2 granddaughters who are the loves of my life.
