Bonnie's Story
I am a New Albany Indy transplant who came to SC in 1970. Schools I attended schools in Sumter and the surrounding counties to include, Shaw Heights Elem. Lamara Elem, Ashwood Central, and Sumter High School. I later attended midlands technical college (Property Management), Midlands Technical College (Paralegal).
I moved to Algonac Michigan for a brief period of time before landing in and living in Columbia for the next twenty years.
I married, Vincent E. Orta in 1981 and we had only one child, a son. Michael V. Orta born in 1988 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. After 20 years of marriage and a LOT of trying to save our dying marriage during those last couple of years - we divorced in 2000.
In 1999, I found myself in the work force at the corporate offices of Pipeline Supply Co. Inc. in Columbia, SC. Sadly my employment ended in 2007 after a workplace accident that could not be fixed. Medically retired in 2007! That was a hard pill to swallow!
I did however meet my soul mate at Pipeline and we married May 6, 2006. The ceremony was breath taking. Everything that I wanted it to be and more. Ironically, my accident injury happened the same month of our marrying, but it did not push me away - he instead braced his life as a husband, care giver, stepfather, and Poppy to our Grandchildren.

elationship that I had prayed for came to life. Lew never had any biological children, so Michael was just what Lew needed to complete our family. Often Michael referred to Lew as his Dad, especially when he went into the Navy (aboard the USS GREEN BAY) and on the flight line. This honored both of this fathers. Vince was air force when we met, and Lew was retired Navy. Lew and I watched as Michael finished school, joined the Navy and became a proud father of two children. Although Michaels marriage ended in 2013, he has sole custody of his children.
Sadly, Lew passed away March 28th, 2012. I think his passing was the most devastating thing that has ever happened in my life. I go on, because my son and grandbabies need me. But I truly feel like Lew was my reason to live after my injury. He made everything in my life different. The colors of my world were brighter than ever. My reason for living was to see him every day, be by his side, and to have a companionship like no other.
I was so very blessed to have him as a part of my life everyday for 5 years and 50 weeks of our marriage. After dating for 6 months and our engagement was for a year.
I spent the better part of this past weekend looking through our old year books. I still have them! 1978, 1979 and 1980. In a word? Interesting! lol.
Ok, enough about me, drop a line and lets talk.
Hugs, Bonnie
