Boyce's Story

Hello all: I hope everyone is well. I do not know where to even start. I guess I will start with post graduation years. After I graduated in 1988 from Cyprus I attended an Automotive school in Phoenix, AZ for about 14 months. During that time I was rooming with an old Brockbank Alum, Brandon Beck. It was a fun place to be, probably not a great place for a 19 year-old to be, but we enjoyed our time there. I had a job with AT&T for a good portion of that time. Another Alum, Marty Lund moved down to live with us. He too, worked at AT&T. We actually printed all the bills that you would receive from AT&T for equipment rentals. It was always interesting to see when the bills for Magna and the surrounding areas popped up. Unfortunately one evening Marty and I were looking for no good and were in an auto accident where we were hit by a drunk driver that made us roll my truck 3 times. No fun indeed.... This cut my schooling and my job short with AT&T and I returned to UT to undergo back surgery due to the accident. Once back in UT I started working for a local CPA firm and attending the U of Utah to study accounting. During my tenure at the U of Utah I left the CPA firm to be employed by a local steel erector where I became the CFO and a general contractor. I graduated from the U of Utah in 1996. I continued my graduate education at Westminster College and received my MBA in 1998. I married Lisa Atwood in 1991 and later divorced. We had two children, a son Callen 3/12/97 and a daughter Emery 1/12/00. While married we lived in WVC off of 6400 West and 4300 South. After I left the steel erector I freelanced doing tax and accounting work for a period of time. I specialized in construction clients and had a nice little practice going. I am currently married to LeAnne Zdunich and I have adopted her son from a previous marriage, Cordell 4/4/98 and we have a son, Julian 11/6/05 together. After meeting LeAnne I took a position with a Thoroughbred Race horse company that had its administrative offices in Farmington, UT. The Company had two horse farms, a Thoroughbred horse farm in Kentucky and a Quarter horse operation in Farmington, UT. This was an amazing industry to enter into. I knew nothing of horses ...Expand for more
or of the magnitude of the industry. I was hired as a business development person for the Company. This position allowed me the opportunity to meet many wealthy clients that we had across the nation and exposed me to a world that I never thought I would see. It also gave me the opportunity to experience 4 Kentucky Derby's and many other horse racing events during that time. We saw Babaro bust his foot up, we saw Giacomo win as a long shot, and even Smarty Jones take the Derby. It was interesting to see the diversity of people at such an event. The infield of the Derby was crazy and usually had two bands playing at the same time and the grandstands were all filled with uptight hat wearers. I was with this Company for about 2 years when the public company members decided to shut the UT operation down. When they did this they asked me to step up and be the General Manager of the Company and move the Company forward. I was required to relocate to Lexington, KY for this position and therefore in early 2006 we moved to KY. This was a great opportunity for my family. We saw many things and experienced many historical as well as cultural things while being there. Kentucky has a huge place in our countries history. Abe Lincoln was born and raised there, there were many civil war battles fought within the state, Fort Knox is located there as well as many other attractions. During our time there we visited, Chicago, Navou, Nashville, Memphis and many other locations that none of my family would have seen if we had not moved. Once we relocated and we finally got into the business the owner and I realized that the Company had been poorly managed and that the Company would most likely not survive. We continued to operate the Company and consult with professionals but the demise of the Company was inevitable and late in 2007 the Company filed bankruptcy. Even with the Company in bankruptcy I continued to work and try to resolve most of the issues that the Company faced. In May of 2008 I moved back to UT. I continue to work for the owners of the Company as they have many other opportunites ahead of them. We are still sorting out a lot of the issues of the old Company. Enough for now, TO BE CONTINUED......
