Dolores's Story

Life (updated Aug 2009) see below. Greetings, I was born and raised in Ypsilanti Mi. We moved to Ca. in 1958 because my brother, Harold, had bad allergies that were keeping him from attending school. I graduated from Redondo Union HS, Redondo Beach Ca., in 1960 and moved north to Oakland Ca in 1965. In 1971 I was married, we have one daughter, Laurel. We moved to Medford Oregon in 1979 and divorced in 1993. Laurel and I moved to Montana in 1998 and only stayed a year. We loved Great Falls but there were not many jobs, only part time, and the National minimum wage, at that time, was $5.15 per hour. You can't survive on that. We moved back to the Portland Or area and love it. I spent 20 years in banking, ten years on phones for Jackson & Perkins and Harry & David and fifteen months working in a grocery store in the deli. Everything but banking was "all" in Oregon. Two years ago I had to retire from the Deli to take care of Harold, who died of lung cancer in Oct of 2002. We sold the house in Calif. and bought a house in Oregon and also got a dependable van. Laurel, my daughter, graduated from an Online college and has her degree in Digital Design. She is putting together a portfolio to get a job, hopefully homebased. We bought a house in Sherwood Or and looking to sell the one in Tualatin. I needed a much smaller yard than 10,000 sqft. The house is about the same size but an open floorplan, much better for me once Laurel moves out. We are trying to get settled in our new home, not as much storage space but much better in many other ways. We still have our dog of 14 years. She seems to be getting younger, more energetic and playful than she had been for a while. (Feb. 2007. We sold the house in Tualatin and enjoying our home in Sherwood. We are adding our own touches as we can afford them.) I joined Classmates to reunite with friends from different schools and jobs. I would love to hear from any and all. Your "Classmate" Susie Wright aka Dolores Boyd PS: May 5th 2007, our six week old, 2007, van was totaled by a drunk driver. We are recovering from the injuries. We have a new van and life is getting better. I recently became a Breast Cancer Survivor. Early detection makes breast cancer highly curable. I was diagnosed in July and had a modified radical mastectomy in August. Cancer free and I feel great and getting stronger all the time. "Cancer" is a scary diagnosis but with early detection, good doctors and supportive friends and family, you can come out on the other side. Oct. 2008 I had a second mastectomy in April of this year. No cancer, I felt is was better to be rid of the problems. (update) We had to put our dog down in Aug. She was almost 16 years, blind, deaf and couldn't stand up without her legs going out from under her and in pain. She was a good friend for all those years and we couldn't watch her suffer. Laurel and her fiance are moving into their own apt the first week of Nov. It will be quite a change for all of us. The middle of Nov I start putting out my santa collection. It's fun and awesome, even to me. That's the truth, good and bad. I hope all of you had a good 2008 and will have an even better 2009. Dolores Boyd aka Susie Wright Happy New Year 2009!! It is different being alone over the holidays. We were snowed in so the family couldn't get together for Christmas. Six miles might as well have been 3000. I enjoyed Christmas music, talking on the phone and the traditional Christmas shows on TV. Let's not forget the cards, letters and pictures that made me feel closer to my friends. I wish everybody health, happiness and a prosperous 2009. Dolores July 2, 2009 I am making the house my own, landscaping the front yard, putting a new door and security screen door on the front. I painted the front door bright red on the outside. It is a real eye catcher. The contrast of the red door and wrought iron screen makes it stand out. Friends are coming out from MN in a couple of weeks. They came shortly after we moved in here and helped arrange furniture, unpack dishes, arrange cupboards and much more. This time we are going to have some fun. Laurel is enjoying her apartment and close to stores where she can walk to and from. We see each other two or three times a week and enjoy our time together. That's up...Expand for more
to date with the latest. Dolores Oct. 2010 Still working on a modification for my home loan. I quit stressing it and just figure what will be will be. You can't rush the bank so I just have to wait it out. I am only one of thousands in the same situation. I may be the only one preparing the house, in Oct, to decorate for Christmas. My santa collection consumes the front of the house; living room, kitchen, dining and family room. For about a month I enjoy my fall collection of harvest characters. It doesn't take up much space and gives the house a little color. I start Nov 1st and it takes about a month to put out the Christmas display, with some help with the heavier things. It also takes that long to take it down. I invite people to come and see it, a lot of people come back year after year. I have them sign Santa's Guest Book and stand next to their favorite display to have their picture taken. My social calendar is full for about six weeks. Children get a small gift when they leave if they haven't played with anything. I do invite them to hold their favorite stuffed toy, whatever, while I take their picture. There are buttons to push to make things, sing, dance, spin, rock or jingle. Is anybody else as crazy as I am? I hope so. Dolores I was about 6 or 7 yrs. on Christmas Eve I couldn't sleep. I heard something or someone in the living room. I was afraid to get up. Christmas Day we had dinner at my grandmother's.. She and I were in the kitchen and she asked "Wasn't santa noisy last night?". It was my father though I didn't know it then. I was a believer for another year. March 21, 2011. The latest has been going on for two years. I am still trying to get an affordable modification on my home. Banks are no help. One of our classmates just received a modification. He is the first I know who has succeeded. I wouldn't fight for the house so hard if it weren't for the neighbors. This is a "to wish for" neighborhood. They are friendly and helpful. Just mention a need and there is someone to lend a hand. How many neighbors would mow you lawn for an entire year after an auto accident and not ask for money? I asked him how much he wanted and he said "You can't afford me". I am getting together with my hairdresser this week and my friend with my daughter, who takes me to all of my oncology appointments, on Saturday. These things are great for the morale. I love emails, phone calls, visits, anything to be with friends. I welcome all callers. Let's hope the next time I update my "story", it will be more exciting in a fun way. Dolores aka Susie Sept 23, 2011 It's hard to say where to start. First the house is in jeopardy of being Foreclosed Nov.4 2011. Modifications are a joke. The Bank wants the house so they deny everything. There are a lot of scams out there, they will take your money and side with the bank. The worst is the forgery of a borrower's signature to bring "files" up to date. There were supposed to be millions of people helped and only a little over 675,000 got any. On the brighter side, the neighbors are great. Two children, from next door, came over the other day. We had a good time here and then we went to an amazing toy store a few blocks from the house. The kids really enjoyed it and so did I. Not many toy stores are geared for "children" of all ages. You have to grow older but you don't have to grow up. The children are 7 & 10 years old and both working above their grade level. Whatever happens to the house, I still add to my santa collection. I am also looking for another Nativity Scene. I had shelves built last year and I may have to add another shelf. Not much of an update but my life has been concentrated on the house. I enjoy the time I spend with my daughter, the neighbors and other friends. I am on the phone a lot. I love game shows, Cash Cab, Jeopardy, and Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader. They keep me thinking while having some fun. I love it when Alex Trebeq and I are the only ones who know the answer/question on Jeopardy. It doesn't happen often but when it does, I get excited. That's my life so far. Stay tuned for the next (exciting?) episode. I would love to hear from you. If you know of any way I can keep the house, without spending anymore money, I would appreciate hearing about it. Dolores aka Susie
