Brad's Story

Back in high school, my future seemed pretty planned out: Running my parents small industrial business, and continuing to live in Vancouver for the duration. That worked fairly well for several years, but things took a bit of a left turn one winter when I started a part time job as a ski instructor at Mt. Hood. The money sucked, but meeting all the happy people and spending so much time outside in clean fresh air really struck a chord with me. In the summer of 1992, I discovered the sport of Paragliding that shortly thereafter sent my previous life plan skidding painfully sideways into the gutter. By 1994, I had started my own Paragliding school, and was working towards closing down the previous business just as the industrial economy in the US was really falling into disfavor. Late in 1997, with only three months left on her travel visa, I met another paraglider pilot from Germany. We hit it off, and both rather imagined having a three month 'fling' until her visa ran out. Another good plan shot to hell. When she left, we immediately found out that neither of us liked the original 'fling' idea, and several months...Expand for more
later, after multiple extended trips back and forth, we were married at the flying site where we first met. Maren and I now spend our summers working on Sunset Beach, (north of Seaside, OR) teaching folks how to fly Paragliders, either with tandem flights or solo training. In the winter, when we are not hibernating, we try to travel as much as possible. Typically to various paragliding sites around the world. It would be easy to say I am still addicted to flying, even after doing so for nearly 20 years. (Can't believe it's been that long!) If you are interested in finding out more about this crazy left turn my life has taken, do a web search for Discover Paragliding on your favorite search engine. We can also be found on Facebook: Discover Paragliding, and Brad Hill. Some day, I expect I will 'grow up'. But I am trying my best to put it off for as long as possible! :-) I hope life has brought you all some pleasant and unexpected surprises. There have definitely been some downs along with the ups in my life history, but in the end, it's all about enjoying where we are right now. So far, so good... Brad Hill
