Ginger's Story

Life Buddy and I celebrated our 29th anniversary in June and amazingly we grow more in love with each passing year. Our lives have not been easy as we started so young but through the grace of God, we have made a wonderful life for our odd little family. We have 2 children, Brandi, 28 and Bryan 24 (Who went to live in heaven in July 9, 2010) We live in Round Rock where I work as a pediatric RN. Buddy is a Senior Data Analyst for the Texas electricity power grid, ERCOT. Brandi, has been married to her high school sweetheart, Jason, for 7 years and they have one daughter, Madison, 3. Being a grandparent to this beautiful little girl is such a privilege. Bryan, who had CP and was both physically and mentally challenged, graduated from high school in 2007. He was a gold medal special Olympian in bowling and also rode horses at R.O.C.K.(Ride on Center for Kids). He was a very sweet and loving young man who, despite his declining health, kept us busy with all of his activities. I cherished each and every moment I spent with this amazing little guy and feel proud and blessed to have been chosen to be his mother, even for such a short time. Both of our children have courageously overcome great hurdles in life and they continue to be my inspiration to live life to the fullest, even in the face of adversity. Buddy and I enjoy traveling and do so at every opportunity. Our list of places that we have been to continues to grow, as does our list of places we still have yet to visit. We love Jamaica and have been numerous times but we have also traveled to the Caymen Islands, St Kitts/Nevis, Honduras, Mexico, Belize and of course the infamous Las Vegas! ***For more up to date info about me and pics of my family visit Ginger Bradshaw-Burr on Facebook. I would love to reconnect with old friends! School High school was a great time and where I met my best friend and future husband, Buddy. My senior year was tough. Having gotten pregnant and then married the summer before, I found out that people I thought were my friends really weren't. I chose to continue in band and even march at the games. It wasn't easy but my teachers were very helpful and provided a lot of emotional support and encouragement. A special thanks to Mr Tucker and Ms Duell. Graduating meant a lot to me and I wasn't going to let anyone or anything stop me. Brandi was born in February and though it was difficult, I managed to attend classes, maintain my grades and walk...Expand for more
across the stage on graduation day with my little 4 month old daughter and my wonderful, supportive, husband cheering me on. College Having no clue as to what I wanted to be when I "grew up" I took some basic classes at what was then TCJC. When Bryan was born prematurely at only 3 lbs and with many deformities, (cleft lip, cleft palate, an intestinal defect and a heart defect) we were told that he would not live long enough to leave the hospital. I visited him several times a day in the NICU. It was very busy and loud with monitors going off all over the place, babies with tubes and wires coming out of their little bodies but then there were the nurses with steady hands and reassuring smiles. I finally knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to become a nurse. Bryan did leave the hospital 2 months later and subsequently survived a very risky heart repair that held less than a 10% chance of surviving according to the surgeon. Then at age 7, our daughter, Brandi, was diagnosed with a life-threatening blood disorder. I knew then that I really NEEDED to become a nurse to care for my children. Once Bryan was older and able to start a special eduacation class, I went back to college. It took me several years and long hours of studying but finally in 1995 I graduated with a degree in nursing.(Buddy graduated the next year with his BS in business management) I later got my certification in pediatrics and still love what I do today. I am so thankful that my Daddy lived long enough to see me, as well as Buddy, achieve our goals. Sadly, my precious daddy passed away in 1997 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Workplace Having worked full time on a very busy acute care unit at Cook Children's for many years, I decided to slow down once we moved. I began working only a few days a month for a pediatric home care company. As Bryan got older, finding a good caregiver I could trust with my precious son wasn't working, so I worked around his schedule. Buddy was home with him on the weekends I worked, that way, I knew he was being cared for properly. Bryan's sudden passing turned our world upside down and I took some time off from work to sort through my grief. I have finally decided it was time for me to return to work. I accepted an RN position with a fast growing pediatric allergy, asthma and immunology clinic that challenges me daily. I love the people I work with and feel like I have finally found a job where I "belong".
