Brenda's Story
Hello classmates,
Chris Gillis and I were married for 38 years in August 2010. Chris started his own company (Minority Contractors, Inc) a few years ago. He is a Minority Supplier of building and roofing materials. We have two wonderful children; Michele is a 1st grade elementary school teacher. She is a member of the Pi Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and vice president and cheerleading coach. Michele is also working on her master's degree in Education with a concentration on Reading. Chris, Jr. is our star athlete in track and field and a educator in Houston, TX. He graduated from Baylor University. He went to college on a full track and field scholarship (takes after his dad). Chris, Jr. made it to the 2008 Olympic Trials in the Long Jump after training with the Carl Lewis Track Club in Houston, TX. Chris' longest just was 26' 4 1/4" but not enough to make it to the Olympics (however, an outstanding accomplishment). We have one grandchild (Michele's daughter, Deja). Deja is the love of our lives and keeps us all busy with her activities - soccer (her first love); cheerleading and track (taking after...Expand for more
her dad, granddad and uncle). Chris, Sr. and I took a trip to Hawaii on November 1, 2009. Eight days of wonderful bliss... I work for a Consulting Firm and continue to dream about when Chris and I can retire and travel full-time. We are saved and are members of the St. John Baptist Church at 400 N. 30th Street in Camden, NJ (near the homes where we grew up)- Dr. Rev. Silas M. Townsend is our Pastor. We would love you to visit our church. For those of you who remember my mom, she is doing great. She will be 84 in January. My sister Sharon died of cancer on December 16, 2007. My brothers, Eric (Butch) and Timmy are doing well. Chris' mom died in 1974. Chris' sister Christine has been living in NY for the past 25 years and doing well. She has 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Chris' sister Elvira died of cancer in October, 2008. She has 4 children and 4 grandchildren. Since both of our children have graduated from college and have their own lives "Praise God" we are now able to travel and do some of the things that are on our "bucket list". Let's see...Paris, Africa, Jerusalem, cruises....
God bless you all.
Until later.
