Brenda's Story

Life Hi Ramblers, First I'd like to say that it's a blessing to be here, of a sound mind, of good health and in the mercy of God. For all of our loved ones that have gone on to glory, let us be comforted in knowing that life is but a journey, a temporal pitstop to our destiny. What we do here is for a purpose, let us embrace this with honor so that our examples may lead others to glory. The trials and the temptations are merely to perfect the saints for His coming. Lord knows I've had many trials and temptations. Many are present in my life now and many will come, yet I press toward the mark for the prize of the High Calling! During the summer of the transition from 10th grade to the 11th grade, I worked in EHS main office, preparing for school to reopen as a summer job. I hated it then because it seemed that I didn't get a break from school. You know, you don't really want the staff to know you that well, just in case you want to get into a little mischief! As fate would have it, the same assignment was given to me the summer of transition from 11th to 12th grade. Life changed! It was during this time that my mother had a heart attack, remained in a coma for about a week, and entered eternity. I had no spirituality at the time and this was devasting for me. The EHS staff and administrators were there to comfort me in ways unimaginable. You never know why people are placed in your life or for what purpose. They immediately stepped in to become my overseers and God knows, they helped me to pressed through the 12th grade. I was always a good student but that last year, I was in a fog. I tried everything to try to numb my pain. Some of you know what I mean by EVERYTHING. That's also why I mentioned that I'm blessed today to have a sound mind. It could have been the other way! I was honored to be chosen as Miss Eastern. Staff often told me how proud my mom would be...Expand for more
of me. Thanks to all of you who pulled me through. I've never forgotten you. I had applied and received a scholarship to Wilberforce University in Ohio, but was afraid to leave home because of my lost. I decided to stay home and I attended UDC. Guess what? I got a work study job with the administrative staff and during my first year, my dad had a stroke and went on to eternity. I had to quit school to support myself and I've often wanted to go back but didn't pursue it. Yet, I've been extremely blessed. I was married for 17 years (happily divorced), have two wonderful children, I have a job that I should have had a degree to obtain with excellent pay and benefits. More importantly, God has revealed my calling to me. That's when you have something that comes so natural, so effortless, that you would do it for nothing! You get great joy in it, and yet you're humbled that this gift was bestowed upon you, undeservingly. I sing! I don't mean R&B, jazz, or even opera. (Not that I have anything against these) I mean, I give praise to the All Mightly. I love it! I love entering into that secret place and telling Him how much I love Him and how good He is to me. I love encouraging others to get to know Him. I've been with a gospel group (formerly known as Joint Heirs, now we are called MYBD), for about 20 years now. We are local, and have been blessed to have Dr. Frederick KC Price, admonish our ministry. Again, I'm not in it for fame or fortune, I love the spiritual place that ministering in song, takes me to. I'm glad I'm not in high school now. Times are hard ...our children are dying even younger, the influence of evil is prevailant. I pray for all of our children to make it through. Remember... this life is yet a journey, choose your destiny. Make an impact for others to follow. We all have a calling...just listen! Love to you all Brenda aka Smiley
