Brian's Story

I am an ordained Episcopal Priest and a retired senior pastor living in Santa Barbara, California. I am also the President of the Institute for Faith-Based Diplomacy and I have been involved in faith-based initiatives since 1990 in East Central Europe and the Balkans, Sudan, Kashmir and the Middle East. I have worked on projects in Syria, Iraq, Palestinian Authority, Israel and the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, In 2006 I was awarded the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Prize in India. As of 2023 IFBD has work going on in India, Zambia, Romania, Chad and Israel. Our objectives are to raise up the next generation of faith-based peacemakers; create pluralistic and just societies; provide an alternative to religious extremism and violence; facilitate the healing of the broken family of Abraham; and create cooperative reconciliation ventures between IFBD and various governments. ...Expand for more
I have written six books, two of which have been translated into Arabic and Romanian. I am a retired professor at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University Law School. I have been married to Ann for 50 years. We have two grown and married children and five grandchildren. My BS degree in Geological Sciences was from USC in 1972. I was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. I did my theological studies at the Episcopal Divinity School and at Harvard Divinity School in 1972-75. I also completed a Masters in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine Law School and the Senior Executive Program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. I have lived in Southern California, Cambridge, Massachusetts and the Washington DC area. Ann and I have traveled to all seven continents including a 2014 expedition to Antarctica on National Geographic/ Lindblad.
