Brian's Story

Life Its been a long time from when we last met at graduation. I have worked as a rest. manager both in the privet sector and in a small family business in the Nebraska Area. Then I changed my area of work to Law enforcement 1st as a Police Officer in Carter Lake IA, then I returned to RI when I learned my mom was dying. My 2 sons and I had 6 months with her and they were a good 6 months.I then went to work for the State of Mass., working as a Correction Officer in 1983, 1st at Walpole, then at Bridgewater as an officer and as a union rep, till 1997. After going through a very bad divorce and getting custody of (1) one of my sons, Christian, I remarried a very close friend from Iowa, where I returned to start life over once again with my new family. Life was very good, working out side for Direc.TV as a field supervisor. A lot of travel was involved meeting a great number of hard working farmers, and learning what life really was all about. Working with Native American's I met and became very close to many on them on the Sioux Reservations in this part of the country. These people taught me a new way to live life, but life goes on. I suffered a very bad work injury, a fall off a roof and I am now disabled. I picked up part time work at the local Airport here in Omaha, as a Security Tech. watching over every one coming and going on their C.C. Camera System, Tracking movements in and out of High Security Areas via. Pass. Cards, and when time permitted I wrote Data Base Programs for the Airport Police/ Security to keep track of all this information for later use.. I did this for several years until my old injury caught up with me and the back pain and the medications became to much for me to function as I needed to be alert and if it was not the Pain it was the Meds that prevented this. So now I am home 24/7 with my Service Dog Heidi, ,going for walks with her down to the Lake, or just working in the yard and garden. I...Expand for more
live in a small town in Iowa with about 4,500 people and yes we all know each other and we know when someone comes into the area that does not live here. We are also on the wrong side of the Mo. River which puts us right in the middle of East Omaha Nebraska. The only way to enter or leave our town Carter Lake Iowa, is thru Omaha on 3 sides, the River to the East by Boat or to Swim the 3 1/2 Lake to the North. Thanks to the Ponca Nation, we have the only Casino on the Nebraska side of the River that has been in operation now for about 6 years now, and Omaha hates it. Our property Taxes are next to nothing, with the help of the (3) Casinos on the Council Bluffs Iowa Side of the River School Taxes the Same is true for Local School Taxes. We are mostly single owner occupied homes, (1) one small apartment complex, a golf course, several Hotels & Rests, all inside a Horse Shoe Shape Lake All other employment is in Omaha and surrounding areas. In short a great place to live w/o all the head aches. Note: Carter Lake Iowa was once part of Council Bluffs Iowa, on the Mo. River. About 130 years ago the River made a natural shift inits flow cutting of a chink of land From Council Bluffs Ia and leaving the Land and what was a "Dog Leg" in the River now as a Lake on the Nebraska side of the River. The Lake is maintained by under ground springs along with the River Water Table. If there is High water on the River the Lake has High Water and the same is true if the River has Low Water Flow, the Lake Water Flow is Low. The OAA Eppley Airfield Maintains Large Water Pumps because of the under ground Water from the River, These Pumps are used to pump the under ground water back into the River when the River is running with High Water so that the Run Ways will not Float, and to help prevent Flooding durning the Flood Season, with heavy Rain & Snow Falls up North from North & South Dakota which is a very big problem here in the Spring.
