Brian's Story
Life
What a long strange trip it's been (credits to the Grateful Dead).
After graduating from St Andrews elementary school in Jamaica Plain, I did my HS years at Boston Tech in Roxbury. Then off to the little town of Bridgewater for my college years. During that period, I worked my way thru school via my employment with the Boston Red Sox, working on the Ground Crew and Crowd Control. All were great experiences, and developed friendships that lasted over 30 years and many, many miles.
Had plans to backpack across Europe after graduating BSC with Peter Vanderspek, a friend from college and the Red Sox, but a hit and run accident to my father caused me to get a real job quickly. A year with Household Finance was all I could stomach, and as my father recovered, I was off to Houston to find my fortune.
I fell into the insurance industry, starting out in home office positions and later moving into field sales. Had to supplement my income thru bartending the first few years, which is a bit of a family legacy.
Met my wife, the former Elda Salcedo in Houston, while playing on a company softball team. We married after a 1 year courtship and 1 year engagement, and started a family 5 years ...Expand for more
later. Alex and Jessie were both born in Texas.
From there, my career moved me to Denver, Kansas City, Chicago and now Southern California (Newbury Park...halfway between LA and Santa Barbara), all great places to live with great people.
I am still in the Life and Health insurance business. It has provided a great life for me and my family. I have been fortunate to find friends all over the country, and I feel that thru this business, I can make some worthwhile social contributions.
As I write this, my two girls are in their teens. They do well in school, contribute to the church and community, and are very active athletically. Alex is a freshman student athlete at UCLA, and Jessie is a sophomore in high school. I am immensely proud of them both and love them more than life itself.
I was fortunate to have found a soulmate in my wife. She is a teacher by training, but truly an angel on earth by avocation.
Over the past two years, thru Classmates and other vehicles, I have been lucky to reconnect with family and friends all over the country and beyond. It has been a series of amazing experiences, which I hope continues as this incredible journey called life progresses down its path.
