Brian's Story
Life
Originally from Iowa, Brian attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois where he completed both his undergraduate (in theatre) and his graduate (in television producing/directing) degrees. He started his career teaching at Bellarmine-Jefferson High in Burbank and producing live events in Los Angeles parlaying that experience into developing & producing live events for television; ultimately developing & producing episodic shows for network television. In 1995 he started working for the Walt Disney Studios (Touchstone) Network Television division in Burbank, California  specifically in the areas of current programming and origianl series development. His first assignment was working with Married With Children creator Ron Leavitt and his then new series for the WB, Unhappily Ever After. His last assignment was serving on the creative team of the then fledgling sitcom, These Friends of Mine (later to be retitled Ellen) for ABC. In his three years with the show, Ellen soared to record ratings and made television history as the first network show to feature an openly gay lead character. Brian remained on the show until its cancellation and then left Disney to accept a contract at 20th Century Fox where he worked on the then new series Roswell and Smallville both for the WB and ultimately with James Cameron on his Lightstorm EntertainmentÂs only/first network television endeavor, Dark Angel for FOX...Expand for more
. A strong affinity for the stage and an educational background very much grounded in the theatre, Brian decided to take a break from the television world to devote his energies entirely to collaborating with his grandmother (Margaret Hoorneman) on writing and producing a Broadway musical adaptation of Charles Dickens Great Expectations. This two-year collaboration culminated in a presentation of the show with Academy Award winner Cloris Leachman (originally with Academy Award winner Debbie Reynolds, later with Emmy/Tony winner Faith Prince) as Miss Havisham and Broadway greats Hugh Panaro and Anastasia Barzee as Pip and Estella helmed by BroadwayÂs King Midas, Richard-Jay Alexander best known for producing Les Miserables & Miss Saigon with Sir Cameron Mackintosh. This collaboration made national headlines including a New York Times front-page feature article for Arts & Leisure written by Senior Editor, Bernard Weinraub, and went on to win the 2006 DirectorÂs Choice Award in New York CityÂs renowned annual musical theatre festival. Brian went on to produce a radio-style live recording of the show as well as an original cast album. Currently, while still managing production pursuits for the Dickensian tuner, Brian has also returned to television programming & original series development consulting this past pilot season for ABC and the ABC-cable network group readying new shows for the 2007-2008 fall launch.
