Brian's Story

After graduation from Hillwood in 1981, I went down the street to Vanderbilt University, where I continued my work as an athletic trainer that I had begun at Bellevue. Having earned a partial scholarship, I worked primarily with the football team, including the 1982 Hall of Fame Bowl team. I graduated in 1986, and worked in the Christian music industry until the early 1990's. I was engaged in December of 1992 in Washington, DC, and married in San Antonio, TX, on June 12, 1993 to the love of my life: New Braunfels, TX native Suzanne Bock. We now have beautiful Rachel, born December 1, 1998; and handsome Benjamin, born November 19, 2002. I have worked in the automobile business for sixteen years, including eight years as Finance Manager for two Mercedes-Benz dealerships here in Houston. We have lived in the Houston suburb of Sugar Land for over fourteen years now, having also lived in the San Antonio area and Corpus Christi in the three years before that. Since moving to Texas I have also been a sports reporter in radio, and managed some political campaigns. Suzanne's dad was in the Texas Legislature for ten years, which affords us some contacts in Austin and Washington, DC. He once had a Ford dealership in Seguin, TX but now spends time at his horse farm in New Braunfels and cattle ranch in the Austin area. We are proud to be conservative Republicans from Texas, and aren't ashamed to be gunowners "clinging" to our religion (and we're fond of the rest of the Constitution as well). Suzanne has been a stay-at-home mom for years, but three years ago began hosting a live, call-in talk show for KSBJ Radio, the local Houston station that plays Contemporary Christian Music. She has a degree in Journalism from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and worked as a reporter in both TV and radio until we began having children. When we met in Nashville I soon discovered her many talents: she was a songwriter, she's written a screenplay, and she's excellent at scrapbooking. Her latest venture is into the world of "voice-overs," for which she is now acquiring an agent. Three years ago we also began the very demanding task of homeschooling Rachel, which allows us more control over the curriculum she experiences. ar Land, where she takes classes two days a week, and then homeschools the other three days. Not long ago she played the part of "Cinderella" in a local production, and we believe that acting could possibly be her strongest gift. However, the greatest blessing that we've received came when Rachel gave her heart to Jesus on our wedding anniversary in 2005, and was baptized on September 11th of that same year. We feel there is no greater joy or privilege as parents than to point our children to Christ, and then see them receive Him with open arms. Rachel demonstrates the gift of mercy, while Ben is a very inquisitive child, and is already asking us a lot of questions about heaven, salvation, and Jesus "living in his heart." Amazing. We have been members of Second Baptist Church in Houston for eleven years, where I am ordained as a Deacon and I currently teach Ben's Sunday School class. Dr. Ed Young is our pastor, and we think he's wonderful. You may have heard of him on his TV and radio ministry known as "The Winning Walk". The Lord is very important in our lives, and He has blessed us tremendously with a great life together! Rachel and Benjamin are our gifts from God who bless us with their tender hearts and loving ways. We love sports (especially football), Christian music, movies that are well-made, entertaining in our home, and lots of travel. We have hosted young ladies from China who have come to America to learn about our Christian culture. We have enjoyed great health benefits by eating only organic meat, egg and dairy products, especially with the dangers that hormones and pesticides can cause to children. We buy from local farmers and a meat co-op run by neighbors. We also love animals (especially horses and dogs - no cats!). Three years ago we adopted our first dog in several years, an energetic Brittany named Lady. For those of you that still live in the Nashville area, we were there recently for Vanderbilt's first bowl game since I was a sophomore in 1982. We usually find a way to get home every year, as my brother is now in Hendersonville and my sister lives in Murfreesboro. My father passed away in 2002 from prostate cancer, but my mom is alive and well and living in Forest Hills. Take care, and may God richly bless you through Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith.
