Ross's Story

Life Graduated high school, went to college, dropped out of college, went to work, had several 'relationships' that did not work out. Worked some more, got married, finally found right one, still married, still working, 26 years now. Happy man. Update: 2010 I am 57 years old now. I just finished a two year degree in Medical Billing and Insurance Coding (back to college at 55! Who would have thought I would do that?)I'm in the middle of an internship at a Dermatology Clinic in St. Paul, Minnesota. The young folks I have been going to school with have all treated me like an aging Grandfather, but in terms of grades, I kicked their asses! We are only as old as we feel, and right now I feel pretty feisty! Update: 2012 Back to school again! I will finally have a bachelor's degree when I am 60 years old. No retirement for me, I plan to work until I die. My friends and relatives think I am crazy to be continuing school at my age, but they are supporting me in my lunacy. Still married, still a happy man! Update: 2014 Graduated! Ross Brown AS BS CCS . Just got new wheelchair ramp built onto the house, (don't need it yet, but looking to the future). I think I have collected too many broken parts over the years. Arthritis plus back injury really sucks. Wife is doing better than I am, still looks good for such an old woman, (just kidding, she is six years younger than I am, and neither of us is ready to be called 'old'). We love our life together. Update: 2015 Am recovering from a stroke. Speech and vision and mental faculties apparently undamaged. Physical side effects are basically loss of strength in right side. Just completed rehabilitation, feel pretty good. Wife has been very supportive, couldn't have continued without her. I'm very glad I got that wheelchair ramp installed, it is coming in very handy now. Can still drive and get around somewhat in a rollator, (I think thats how it is spelled, its a fancy walker with wheels). I am retired now, collecting social security, wish I wasn't. Getting old is not much fun, but I haven't figured a way out of it yet. I will keep working on it. Update: 2016 Wife fell off ladder at work! She broke two vertebrae and is n...Expand for more
ow wearing a tortoise shell brace. She should recover about 80 percent during the next year. Workers compensation is a real pain in the neck. It is pretty obvious they don't want to pay the bills if they can find a way to wiggle out of it. I am finding good use for my education, it helps to know when the workers comp people are bullshitting us. We are carrying on as best we can, and have no real complaints other than those outlined above. I love that woman, and will support her any way I can. 2017 Update. Wife has recovered from back injury and returned to work. She is a little sore some days, but has shown a remarkable recovery. I am still retired, still looking for trouble. My dog got cancer at age eleven and has recently passed away. I miss him every day. I don't seem to have quite as much energy as I once did, but that is to be expected at age 64 after having a stroke. Take care of yourselves, you only get one body. Update 2018: Another year has passed. Wife is still working at Walgreens, but is looking forward to retiring in two years. We got a new dog, and he keeps us on our toes. He is a coon hound, and he is a thief. You don't dare leave anything sitting around, it is likely to get snatched. I got a used powerchair from a friend that no longer needs it, and it is fun to cruise around in it. The stores and the library, etc. are all within a mile. I got the roof shingled and put in a sidewalk ramp, I got the bathroom redone this year too. The house looks better than it has for a long time. Thats all for now, take care of yourselves. Update 2020 I spent three months in a nursing home/hospital/rehab center. What a way to go broke fast! Cost was 15000 per month. Got out and am stqying out as long as possible. I LIVE in a hospital bed now at home with my Wife, dog, and computer. Uhad a respiratory event, according to the hospital, my blood oxygen dropped suddenly and my speech was slurred and I could not think clearly. Not another stroke, which is what I thought was happening.. As I said earlier, I am home now and got away before they could drain me dry. Taking life one day at a time now. Take care, life is short.
