Bruce's Story

After career in consumer and business periodical publishing focused on home entertainment market, working in New York City and maintaining offices in Los Angeles as well, moved on to brief stint as communications consultant, specializing in digital media by writing speeches, launching professional journals, and producing business events. Currently enjoying second career much closer to home with extensive involvement in community (Yorktown Heights, Westchester County, N.Y.) as publisher of weekly newspaper, VP of Chamber of Commerce, and president of Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation, founded in memory of our son, who passed away March 2003, after surgery, due to complications of lifelong heart-and-lung disease, a result of the rare form o...Expand for more
f dwarfism that limited his height to three feet. The Foundation's name is borrowed from a local ballfield that was rededicated by the town council on the strength of a 1200-name petition circulated immediately after his death by two 7th-grade students inspired by the courage, wit and sports expertise of Harrison, who was in 10th grade at the time of his passing and sports editor of his school paper. (See "Harrison Apar" page at YACsports.com.) Keeping alive the spirit of our son -- and buoyed by my wife Elyse and daughter Elissa (entering SUNY Oneonta fall 2008 for elementary education program) -- has given me renewed purpose in life and has made me stronger and more confident than I ever imagined I could be. The Lord works in mysterious ways.
