Bruce's Story
Life
Since barely graduating NFA, went on to get A.A. degree in gen. sci. from Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, KY., BS in earth science/chem. from Eastern Ky. U., MS in earth sci/chem. from Texas A&M, Ph.D in earth science/oceanography from Southern Miss. Univ. & post-doc at Penn State. I guess I was a "late bloomer". My NFA guidance counselor told me to join the military since he didn't think colleges would want me as a student. In 2002 I was awarded "Outstanding Achievement Award" by my undergraduate Alma Mater for my teaching and research in astrophysics.
Worked for Union Carbide Nuclear and Int'l Nickel - Sterling Forest and taught college at Pearl River Jr. (MS), Wayland Univ. (TX), & Prof. + Dept. Chair at Mercer Univ. (GA) since '82. Astrophysicist doing research with meteorites and early solar system with many publications in professional journals and author of encyclopedia entries. Travel extensivly. (China, Tibet, Japan, most all of Europe, South Africa, North Africa, Chile, Peru, & Pan America) Led research team to Antarctica '93 to search for meteorites. First ever to teach undergrad classes on Ant. Cont. (Geology & Ocean'y) with class of 5 students. Was Fulbright scholar dep. in Bulgaria. Lectured at Sofia - Klement Ohridsky Univ. on meteoritics while there ('91/2).
Avid stamp collector & flying enthusiast (have pilot's license). Owned several planes. One which I completely rebuilt was awarded best classic at show in Texas '80. Am now retired as Professor Emeritus of Physics and Earth Science from Mercer University and am employed as completer of honey-do lists in St. Marys, GA...right on the FL state line.
Have 2 sons. One is in medical supplies and manages most of the S.E. states , other was digital animation and visual effects artist for Unified Films Org.for SciFi Channel, did "DOGFIGHT" animation for History Channel, and is now with a new digital animation co. in CA.
