Bruce's Story

Earlier this summer we finally started flying into Boston and this month I had a 22 hour overnight. If you live there you already know but if you don't,this city is like no other and I can't wait to get back to Beantown. I managed to get out and walk the Freedom Trail while I was there. This is an historic path that covers about two and a half miles in each direction where you view most of the historical sites that the city has to offer. I saw such places as the Old North Church,Paul Reveres house,Boston Common,Faneuil Hall, the Boston Massacre Site, and the Kings Chapel Burying Ground. It was an Indian summer day in November so shorts and a tee shirt were the dress code for the day. The subway system was not only convienent but inexpensive and clean and got us to and from the hotel in about 15 minutes time. However the stop of the day had to be Mike's Pastries where I couldn't leave without sampling the Boston Creme Pie. Mike's has a web site and they do ship. Be forewarned though,Boston is a very expensive city. Take lots of money. The area around Faneuil Hall does have a great selection of different foods at reasonable prices though. Star sightings! It never ceases to amaze me how many well known and recognizable people fly us. And it seems to come and go in spells. You can go a long time without recognizing anybody and then it'll seem like you recognize different celebrities or artists everytime you turn around. This past trip, for the sports fans in Tennessee of the Titans,I had Eddie George sitting in my section. I had just seen him on Dr. Oz the other day so I think that's why I was a...Expand for more
ble to recognize him so easily. He doesn't look that old and he looks like he could still play. The next day I had Richie McDonald on a flight into Nashville. Richie used to be the lead singer for a group called Lonestar but now sings faith and family type songs solo. He gave us all autographed CD's after he sang on our PA on decent. He'd been in Detroit taping a Holiday show that's to air on TBN this Christmas season. Then, on the very next flight out of Nashville to Tampa, country star Phil Vassar sat in my section. While Phils on tour right now, he's more known for being a song writer than a performer. He's wriiten songs that were performed by a number of different country stars including one that was recorded by Pure Prairie League,"Let Me Love You Tonight." It's funny how many people board the planes in Nashville with guitars so it gets you to wondering if these people are somebody well know. Phil saw somebody he knew and I overheard this guy ask him if he was on his way to a "gig". That's when it hit me who he was cause I'd remembered him as one of the judges on the USA Network show,Nashville Star. I got a chance to briefly say hello as he was deplaning in Tampa and he seemed like a really nice person who's into his fans. Tomorrow morning I work several legs to Burbank for an overnight and then fly onto St. Louis the next night before coming home on Thursday. I don't update these posts very often so I'd like to take this chance to wish everybody a very happy and prosperous holiday season. And let's do a reunion some time! Like maybe next year? Can you believe it's been 40 years? Wow!
