Bruce's Story

Life I have been working for the same company for 27 years and in the same industry for 31 years after spending 5 years after HS graduation doing many different things. I am in the power generation industry and have worked at coal fired power plants, natural gas fired cogeneration plants, and now wind turbine generator wind farms. I have been married for 23 years and counting on many, many more! I met my wife in California playing co-ed volleyball several years after I moved there in 1985. Linda and I were married in Bakersfield, CA. We do not have any kids. I live in New Mexico now after living in California for slightly over 20 years. We enjoy traveling and have been to many of the states in our great nation as well as Canada, England, Puerto Rico, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, New Zealand (yes, I bungy jumped!)and Australia. We have traveled overseas extensively with a ski group. We both own motorcycles and occasionally travel by motorcycle on vacations. On one trip we traveled by bike to Lake Tahoe, Crater Lake, the Oregon/Washington coast, the Olympic peninsula, Mt. Ranier, and Mt. St. Helens. A total of 3600 miles. On another we traveled to Las Vegas for a Ducati event. We went to the first MotoGP race in the US for the past eleven years at Laguna Seca in California in 2005. An American, Nicky Hayden...Expand for more
, won the MotoGP race. On our most recent motorcycle trip we traveled throughout the Colorado mountains the summer of 2006. I have probably put nearly 160,000 miles on different motorcycles I have owned in the last 26 years. Linda has a Yamaha V-Star 1100 Classic cruiser and I have a Ducati ST4 sport-tourer. We enjoy fishing and have recently bought a bass boat. We have a running bet every time we go fishing. Of course, Linda usually out fishes me. She is the one with the wall-mount Walleye and is a Manitoba Master Angler with a catch & release 43-1/4" Northern Pike. Since buying the boat, I have been able to out-fish her. We'll see if that holds up the next time we get up north to Minnesota and Canada. We are enjoying our lives and have the chance to do many of the things we have on our life "to do" list. We are planning for retirement and hope to travel more extensively around the US when we retire. Workplace I currently work at a 120 MW wind farm in east-central New Mexico. There are 120 wind turbine generators on the site with future development plans for more. I am new to the wind industry even though I have many years of power plant experience. Every day I learn something new. What a blast. Climbing the towers should help to keep me young. The climb is equivalent to going up a ladder twenty-two stories!
