Bruce's Story
'63 Norland. Some of our teachers were good and I thank them for helping me become modestly successful. Like Miss Bartesec, she was the best English teacher. There were others too. Bryant, Murray, Penn, Hahn, Dawkins, Pacheco.
Conversely, I would like to say that I was modestly successful "in spite" of some teachers that perhaps should have chosen different professions than the one that is supposed to teach and nurture children. In my opinion Gilcrest was the top of my list for getting enjoyment from humiliating me publicly as I struggled with Chemistry.
My favorite story is Mrs Stroud, Biology: Crowning 10th grade moment for me. I unwittingly asked her during the genes lecture, If brown eyes are dominant, then after all these years, why are there still blue eyed people?
Her answer: "Bruce, that's a stupid question." (That was her whole answer.)
Enjoyed high school in general because of my fellow students mostly. Some good people went to Norland.
Married Dottie Eyerdam, class of '65 in 1965. Three great children. After they were grown, we split, single for a decade, and married again, a peer engineering manager in Silicon Va...Expand for more
lley, Nancy K. of AZ.
Back to '63. Joined the Navy went to Viet Nam. Worked at Cape Canaveral on the Apollo-Saturn project with The Boeing company. Attended NC State.
Back in the Navy, high-speed, low altitude, Aviation Reconnaissance based in Key West, and stationed on various aircraft carriers, including the Nimitz and the Vinson for years. Then attended the Naval Postgraduate School, in Monterey CA.
Sprint International -- data communications; Octel Communications, Voice Messaging; Aspect Telecomm, a poorly run company that made automated call distribution systems; then, Synopsys, silicon chip design tools.
Then we bought a couple small businesses when high tech fell apart circa 2002, and have since sold them for a nice profit, etc.
These days we enjoy good restaurants, good red wine, many types of music. Love the ocean. We travel a lot, been around the world. We also motor home around, and use timeshares too. Mostly, we just like taking off to where ever strikes us.
I miss old friends that I've lost track of. My quote: "If I had known the Internet would be invented, I would have remembered people's last names!" Bruce
