Life
Akkk. Here's life in 30 seconds: After BHS, University of Maryland art major (stone carver) during some of the best anti-war years in Washington; Married in '74; Architectural sculptor for coupla years traveling around the country - San Francisco Mint, Carnegie Mansion, National War College, Ballentine House in Newark; Recession sent me to Houston where I was a graphic artist at the Chronicle for 27 years -- two shuttle disasters, San Francisco quake, impeachment, Columbine, Enron, nine presidential elections, Sept. 11 and too many hurricanes. Kid in '83; Divorced in '86; Remarried in '90 to the love of my life. We moved back East in April '05 -- living and creating art in wonderful, vibrant New Haven.

ar. I desperately needed a girl to hug, but (like so many of us) couldn't figure out how to make that happen in high school. I think fondly of those years now and remember many classmates, many good times and a damned good public education.
University of Maryland was sweet. Great campus, talented profs, art, political activism, communes, food co-ops, sex, drugs and rock and roll -- all the living and indulging that 20-year-olds are built for.
Like most transplants to Houston, I arrived and stayed for the work -- newsroom artist, photo editor and then informational graphics artist. Texas is a fascist spawning ground. The Chronicle wasn't a great newspaper. It wasn't horrible either, but it was time to move on after a quarter century or so. I met many good people and made a few lifelong friends.
