Bruce's Story
After earning a psychology degree from Michigan State and a master's degree in social psychology from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale), I moved to Los Angeles in 1972, where I served as personnel director for Wherehouse Records for eight months. Then I took a job in the savings & loan industry and eventually became editor of a corporate magazine. In 1981, my wife (a San Fernando Valley girl whom I married in 1975) and I moved to Northern California, where I completed a two-year teaching job at Humboldt State University; then it was on to Missouri Western State College (1983-85, ...Expand for more
St. Joseph, MO), University of Central Arkansas (1985-90, Conway, AR), and University of Arkansas at Little Rock (1990-2012), from which I retired in December 2012. My wife and I still live in the house we built in Conway in 1985. Our eldest child is married and lives in the Denver area; our youngest graduated from UALR and works in Little Rock. In retirement, we have traveled a bit more than we did before retirement, and I have found all sorts of things to do beyond work (except I do keep updating my Mass Communication Law in Arkansas book, which was first published in 1997 (my co-author, to whom I am slowly passing the book, and I are working on the 10th edition of this text)). If you type my name into the Google search engine, you'll see what else I've been up to during my journalism teaching career.
