Bruce's Story
Life
Update Oct 08
My Spouse
Met Colleen working at Gibbs & Cox Marine Engineers in Manhattan- 100s of recent grad engineers and no cubicles! lookout manhattan we've got lots of disposable income! Hot spots were: Limelight club, Iguana Bar, Seaport, Palladium, McSorleys Bar. Thank God we moved on from working in NYC, I'd be dead by now if we didnt...from all the vices..."Bruce, weren't you wearing those clothes here in the office just yesterday? you look alittle ... disheveled" "oh umm, guess so, let me sleep some more." In spite of it all, the Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer DDG51 seems to be a success.
My Kids
They'r cool. We took the boat down the James River to show them the now retired ship I sailed aboard, crossing the Atlantic a few times - they had fun and listened to my sea stories & commented- "Dad- you are like a kid. You like to play..." You better believe it! (foosball in 40 foot seas can make the game very interesting, and weight lifting can be downright dangerous!). Into soccer now, all 3 of them. Coaching is fun, so much so, I dont know who enjoys it more, me or them.
My Job
Manage service & maintenance for a fleet of gas turbines at electric utility power plants, been with this turbine-generator manufacturer/EPC contractor- co. "Alstom" (was ABB). Its great working for a euro co.- lived in Switzerland 2 years, made some great euro friends we hook up with for vacations yearly. My fav customer is on Oahu - ... a couple weeks a year- you'l...Expand for more
l find me paddling out to the lineup at Ala Moana before the sun comes up for a 2 hour surfing session before work.
Hobbies
pretty much covered MOST of them; surfing, water & snow skiing, (yeah, if you live in switzerland, you ski, its what you do on weekends 5 or 6 months a year, so it carried over to back home). Like to make homebrew beer, which the guys on my ice hockey team love, we can polish off most of a 5 gallon batch after a game, but with a game a week, I cant brew that fast! Play some indoor soccer too, try to practise what I preach, when I coach the kids. To wind down after a lat enight hockey game, I'll spend a few minutes plucking and strumming on a gee-tar!
Hmm, what else... went on a special weekend retreat- Cursillio, "the 385th," and it was awesome. If you want to know about it, just ask, but can't give you specific details, cant ruin the surprise. Now I know what those license plate frames saying "DeColores" are all about.
If you want to know the most awesome way to spend 48 hours, get into volunteering at a Comfort Zone Camp weekend. The Kids or Teens, that attend, that you work with, will give you back a hundred times over what you give to them. EVERYONE leaves the weekend wishing the world could be like camp. Its for kids that have lost a parent(s), or sibling, and its a place for them to share, grow, heal. Anyone involved is a changed person. Besides, its a ton of fun. I go twice a year. If you have a heart, you should do this.
