Bruce's Story

Worked for a publishing company 1974-1977, then in the coin business till 1987. Went back to University of Missouri - St. Louis in 1986 and finally received my BA History in 1990. Spent a year in China (1988-89) then on to graduate school (got an MA from Harvard in Asian Studies 1993). The degrees didn't do me much good though. Was in the used book business 2000-2006 (had a nice cozy bookstore in Wisconsin 2003-2006). Spent a year in San Diego, CA working as a researcher for Early American History Auctions, but the cost of living was too high, so moved back to Wisconsin. Have lived in Sheboygan, WI since 1994. Bought a cozy old home in 1996 and have filled it with books (for my research). Have had over 100 articles published in var...Expand for more
ious magazines, but so far haven't finished a book (have several in the works). Married Ruth Sumwalt from Richland County, Wisconsin in 1977. We met in the library (of course) of the University of Wisconsin, where she was a student. Besides Wisconsin, we have lived in Ft. Wayne, IN; St. Charles, MO; Seattle, WA; and Boston, MA. Our only child, Jessica, was born in Indiana. She graduated from Lakeland College (nearby) in 2004 and is a teacher in a Milwaukee suburb. She and her husband just had their first child, Isaac, in May. Since 2007 I had been working for a company with headquarters in Tokyo and Shanghai, but my project has just been discontinued (August 2009), so I'm looking for a job again (still selling used books online).
