I spent the summer of '66 working on the ocean with Bobby Micklewright. We lived on the boat and mapped ocean currents during the day--for $2.50 an hour; thought I was going to be rich. That fall I worked for Fellows, Read, & Weber surveying sites for homes in Leisureville off Yorktown Blvd. until the snow fell. I took a semester of courses at OCC when it was in the old TR elementary school. When the house I was renting sold, Brad Saveriano was kind enough to let me sleep on his couch for a couple of weeks until Uncle Sam took me in. Basic training at Fort Jackson, SC. AIT & OCS at Fort Sill, OK. Fort Campbell, KY for 6 months of troop duty then Jump School at Fort Benning and off to join the 101st Airborne Division as a Forward Observer. Twenty-three Combat assaults and 18 firefights later, I got off a plane in Newark, bought a Volkswagon, and drove to Florida to see my family...Expand for more
