Bruce's Story
Life
After graduation from Paint Branch High School, I joined the US Air Force as an F-15 mechanic. I went through Basic Training and Tech School in Texas, and then was assigned to Langley AFB, VA with the 49th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. I served three years on active duty and got out on a program called ÂPalace Chase which allows active duty people to get out early to go to college, but they have to give two months to the Reserves for every month of commitment left. I was assigned to the 459th Airlift Wing as a mechanic on C-141Âs at Andrews AFB, MD.
I worked several odd jobs while going to college. I started at Essex Community College, transferred to the University of Maryland, but finished my B.S. from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I worked as everything from a mechanists milling metal parts to an EMT working in Alexandria Emergency Room. After graduating, I got a position with Booz Allen & Hamilton as a consultant using my aviation background to help the DoD customers. After 13 years as an enlisted member of the reserves, and achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant, I also was selected through the Deserving A...Expand for more
irman Commissioning program to become an officer. I went through the Academy of Military Science program and was the distinguished graduate class 0-97-2, finishing in the top 5% of my class. I spent the next eight years as an officer, and finally retired in June 2005 as the Commander of the 459th Maintenance Operations.
I worked for Booz Allen & Hamilton for four years, then got a position working with Litton-TASC, which later became part of Northrop Grumman Corporation. I went back to school to get my Masters degree and complete my Masters in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in June 2005. I have been with NG for over seven years now, and have been in positions of increased responsibility, to where I am now the Director of about 560 people running a profit and loss center within NG.
On the person side, I met my wife-to-be just after getting out of the Air Force while attending college at Essex CC. We dated for 5 ½ years and got married in August of 1994. We now have two beautiful daughters, Cydney who is six and Riley who is four. We live in Ellicott City, Maryland in wonderful house for the kids to grow up in.
