Bruce W's Story

Life Well, it's been an interesting life, so far...after Patrick Henry I gave Saddleback College a try, but was too bored. I was accepted to be a Mail Carrier in San Juan Capistrano, but made a life-changing decision, headed north to L.A. and got into the motion picture industry instead! It was either a Post Office Yin or a Show Biz Yang! Funny how things turn out! You never know. I loved the Entertainment Industry, for 22 years anyway...until the non-union people started taking over, and took the 'Show' out of 'Show Business.' I was very good at my job as a prop man/set dresser/leadman (don't try to make sense of the names...these from an industry that has names like Best Boy and Gaffer!?)...but when it was no longer fun and challenging, I walked away from it. I kicked back for several years and just did what I wanted...odd jobs, handyman work, investments as I needed to live. Even worked with singer Lauren Wood, travelled to various locations and set up her equipment for her performances. One particular show at Billboard Live here in Hollywood was especially exciting. If you don't know Lauren Wood...you must check out her website! She's incredible! I lived in Laguna Hills, then Panorama City (San Fernando Valley, north of L.A.) where I have been for 30 years. Can't believe it's been that long, or that I have been in my house 27 years!! But, that's about to change...I have bought a house in Surprise, AZ (west part of the Phoenix Valley) and will be moving there next spring. I've had enough of L.A. and who can afford anything in California anymore anyway...at least it is still affordable--and Civilized!--in Phoenix!! There is something that Carol Burnett said...Expand for more
a few years ago, and I have decided that it is appropriate for me....she was asked what was the most significant thing that happened to her in the last 10 years. She thought for a beat and said, 'I've aged FOUR.' I love it. Thanks, Carol...I'll take it. And another show biz flashback tidbit....on the Ellen Burstyn Show several years ago--at the start of it she would talk directly into the camera, and I will never forget this--she said that the definition of a Critic is someone who comes down the mountain After the battle and shoots the dead. John Travolta and Tom Cruise are nice guys...Sylvester Stallone is an egomaniac...Whoopi Goldberg is a sweetheart...Connie Ray and Aaron Michael Metchick from 'The Torkelsons'--you guys were such fun...(and Noah Hathaway, in one episode! You know why! A good sport!) I don't miss the business, but I do miss many of the people, both behind and in front of the camera...and the money. I really miss the money! So...there you are. I'm not one for the 'what-ifs' or 'who-weres' and didn't feel the need to stay in touch with anyone once I left San Diego. Life proceeds with or without us. If we are lucky enough to be a continuing part of it, a small part of this world, then that's great. I'm still here...and those of you from the Class of '70 who are reading this--congratulations for surviving as well! Take care. Oh, I know that this place is very limited...I have no intention of paying for options, but if anyone wants to say anything to me, I am batman4oz at the usual places for mail. So...don't be a Ya-hoo--Gee, it's just mail! Got it? One more thing I want to say.... I Want The '70's Back....I Wasn't Through With Them! ^^X^^
