Bruce's Story
Life
Married Margaret Meyer from Elmhurst, Illinois on October 10, 1979 and have two children, a son Skip James Talbot born in 1983 and a daughter, Erin Marie Talbot born in 1991. Obtained a pilot's license while attending Southern Illinois University and built my own two set aircraft, a Rutan Long Ez. Designed my own house and built it and an aircraft hanger along the runway at Clow Airport in Bolingbrook, Illinois. I also maintain a vacation cabin in central Wisconsin on 95 acres of woodland with a 25 acre fishing/swimming lake.
To support my daughter (she is a Coast Guard Cadet at the academy in New London), I volunteer as an Admissions Partner for the United States Coast Guard Academy, representing the academy at local collage fairs and conducting applacant admissions interviews and counselling. I am President of the Son's of the American Revolution, Fox Valley Illinois Chapter, and was responsible for the chapter Law Enforcement and ROTC awards program. I man currently the vice-president of the state society. I am also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and attend the annual convention and fly-in air show each year at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I purchased a new C-5 Corvette fixed-roof coupe in 1999 and often take it to local car shows.
School
Mixed Chorus with JJ Stamm was my favorite experience at Taft. I was also selected to join the Chicago All-City Chorus along with Tom Hamilton. I enjoyed participating in several school plays, my favorite being "Guys and Dolls" with many of my friends. I also enjoyed singing Christmas songs at O'Hare Airport each December. I participated in the Taft Army JROTC program for 4 years and was ranked 2nd in my ROTC class behind Kevin O'Neil. My...Expand for more
home room teacher was Mister Levin who wore the exact same black suit every day for four years. Carl Rapollo and the "Keystoners" were my favorite memories of afer-school parties. I had an arrest-me red 1968 Camaro SS 350 and my steady girl was Marcy Clements.
College
Attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale right after graduation from Taft High School. Majored in Administration of Justice and a minor in Political Science, including an internship with the Paul Simon for Congress campaign. While at SIU-C I was elected to the Student Senate and the University Senate. I also jointed the college flying club and obtained a pilot's license. While at SIU-C I was appointed to the Carbondale Human Relations Commission by then Mayor Neil Eckert, and was elected as a precinct committeeman in Jackson County. After graduation, I did one year of post graduate school work toward a Master's degree but had to leave school do to lack of money. Later, I attended Roosevelt University in Chicago and graduated with a Master of Public Administration degree. I also obtained a management certificate from Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
Military
Enrolled in the Army JROTC program at Taft, graduating number two in my ROTC class. Enrolled in the Air Force ROTC program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and was admitted to the Arnold Air Society. After two years I was ranked third in my ROTC class and was offered flight training and a commission opportunity, but failed the eye test at Randolph Air Force Base and dropped out of the program. Currently, I am a Admission Partner for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy attending H.S. college fairs and doing applacant interviews.
