Kathryn (Kitty)'s Story
Life
In September 2007, I moved to Waltham, Massachusetts, just a few miles outside of Boston, to attend film school. In May 2008 I completed the intense, 6-month filmmaking program. I've combined my journalism training and experience to produce, direct and write a short documentary film called BIRTH. This documentary shows that childbirth has turned into a big business controlled by doctors, hospitals and drug companies with little consideration for the well-being of the mothers and their babies. Natural childbirth could be extinct in a hand full of years since only five percent of births are without drugs and medical intervention. Cesarean rates have skyrocketed in the United States as compared to other developed countries. Infant and maternal mortality keeps rising, too. I will make a full-length documentary about the same subject which I hope to complete by the end of 2009.
Before moving to Massachusetts, I lived in Saratoga Springs, New York from 2001-2007. Saratoga Springs is a beautiful town of 25,000 people in upstate New York. During horse ra...Expand for more
cing season the town swells to over 60,000. There are lots of writers, artists and art galleries--lots of culture in this little town.
In Saratoga Springs, the leaves turn to magnificent colors in the fall. The winters are beautiful, lots of snow and cold weather. but much too cold and ice for me. Otherwise living there was a lot of fun. The weather in the Boston area is not as cold. There's snow and ice, but not as much as Saratoga Springs, and the temperatures aren't -20 and -30 degrees below, ever. And, I LOVE living near a big city like Boston. I can always visit friends and family from wherever I live.
My two sons ages 41 and 39 years-old and their own families and live in the Los Angeles area, where we were all born. I visit my sons and my 7 beautiful grandchildren at least once or twice a year. In between we video conference each other and have hours of telephone calls. My brother Gene and sister Jennifer live in or near Los Angeles, too---and lots of other family and friends. It's a big party for me when I visit, usually for about a month.
